Welcome back everyone. Today we're going
0:02
to make this delicious tater tot sloppy
0:06
joe casserole. The best of two worlds
0:10
colliding together in this one delicious
0:14
dish. We got that saucy sloppy joe's.
0:17
That cheese is going to hold everything
0:20
together. And then we have those crispy,
0:23
crunchy tater tots, golden brown across
0:26
the top for a delicious bite that'll
0:31
knock your socks off. You guys ready?
0:34
This is a ground beef recipe. So, of
0:36
course, we're going to start off with
0:37
one pound of ground beef, whatever you
0:41
like. We're going to brown it up, break
0:43
it up into small pieces, and we're going
0:45
to cook everything in a skillet. And
0:47
then we're going to pop it into the
0:50
oven. So, if you have a skillet that is
0:53
ovenproof, that will be perfect for this
0:56
recipe. Now, I'm going to say that if
0:58
you don't, then you can certainly use a
1:01
regular skillet, make the recipe before
1:04
the tater tots, and then pour it into a
1:07
baking dish, and then top it with your
1:10
tater tots. So, either way is fine.
1:15
I'm just using my it's a ceramic coated
1:19
uh cast iron skillet.
1:23
All right, while we're browning up the
1:24
ground beef cuz this comes together
1:26
pretty quickly, we're going to go ahead
1:29
and start chopping up one yellow onion.
1:32
Adds some flavor. It adds a texture. It
1:35
bulks up your dish, too. So, I'm just
1:37
going to take off both ends, the outer
1:39
layer, and then we're going to chop it
1:40
up. Now, if you don't want to dice up an
1:42
onion, you don't have to. You can use
1:44
minced onion that comes in a jar
1:47
or you can just put some extra onion
1:49
powder into the dish
1:52
and season it up that way.
2:02
All right, it's always the easiest way.
2:03
Just cut it in half. Follow the lines of
2:06
the onion.
2:12
Oh, this is going to be a good dish, you
2:14
guys. It's a casserole. It's full of
2:17
great things. It's a ground beef recipe.
2:20
Comes together really quickly.
2:24
I'm just going to turn them.
2:26
I'm just run my knife through.
2:36
Now, this is not your average ordinary
2:38
sloppy joe mixture, okay? and not one
2:41
that I have on my recipe blog, but it's
2:45
a different version and it feels more
2:47
like a cowboy style because there's
2:50
going to be a little bit of barbecue
2:51
sauce in there and it's going to have
2:55
lots of flavor which will stand up to
2:57
those tater tots. Yeah, it's going to be
3:01
very hearty.
3:03
And you know, if I'm making it, it's
3:04
going to be good. All right, our ground
3:07
beef is almost browned up. What we're
3:09
going to do is add the onion and start
3:11
softening that down while the ground
3:13
beef finishes cooking up.
3:20
Now, these onions will soften down.
3:27
All right, I'm going to go ahead and
3:28
start using my wooden spoon for the rest
3:30
of the dish.
3:37
What we're going to do now is drain any
3:40
excess grease that you have from the
3:43
ground beef or the onion if it may have
3:46
put out some liquid there. We're going
3:48
to take some paper towels, just roll
3:50
them up a little bit. Put them into the
3:51
mixture here. And then we'll soop up any
3:53
excess in there and get remove that
3:56
because we don't want this too soupy
3:58
with that. We would rather have the
4:00
delicious ingredients in there.
4:04
Now, if you like any of the tools that I
4:05
use in my kitchen, I get asked that a
4:07
lot. Where do I get certain tools from?
4:09
Generally, it's from Amazon, and I have
4:11
a link to my storefront
4:14
in my recipe blog,
4:15
katherine'splates.com,
4:17
and just go into the cookbook store tab,
4:21
and click on the Amazon logo, and then
4:24
you can go in there, and you can find
4:25
all the stuff that I use in my kitchen.
4:31
And I am an affiliate with Amazon and I
4:34
get just a little bit anytime you buy
4:36
anything, but it is no additional cost
4:38
to you,
4:40
but it just helps out my channel
4:44
and I get to show cool stuff to you. So,
4:47
all right, there we go, y'all. Let's
4:48
flavor that up. Like I said,
4:51
everything's going to happen in this one
4:53
skillet right here. So, we're going to
4:54
open up one can of tomato sauce. This is
4:58
a 15 oz can.
5:06
Oh, here comes all the flavors. It's
5:09
going to start rocking in this kitchen.
5:21
All right.
5:24
Now, I'm going to mix this in just so
5:26
that the meat will stop frying in our
5:29
pan.
5:32
Always forget to clean the side of the
5:33
pan here. Y'all told me that. So, I'm
5:36
trying to remember that. It's easy to do
5:39
it right here and in the center, but
5:40
forget that side right there. Ketchup.
5:43
1/4 cup.
5:47
We're going to add two tablespoons of
5:49
some barbecue sauce. Any flavor that you
5:51
like. We got this Kinders. It's a
5:54
bourbon apple. Okay. One and
5:59
two.
6:01
Little extra there, y'all. I kid you
6:04
not. I forgot to tell y'all to cook your
6:06
garlic one minute before your onions are
6:08
done.
6:09
So, we're going to go ahead now and add
6:11
one tablespoon of minced garlic. It's
6:14
okay. It'll be cooking in the oven also.
6:17
So,
6:19
there we go.
6:20
We're going to add in one tablespoon of
6:23
whooes sauce.
6:26
Feel like that's a preference sometimes
6:28
to for people. There we go. And then
6:31
we're going to add in
6:34
some mustard.
6:38
Yellow mustard.
6:40
Just a tablespoon.
6:43
Let's mix this in.
6:47
Like I said, that barbecue sauce and
6:49
that mustard, that's going to add a nice
6:52
hearty flavor to the dish.
6:59
Yep.
7:04
All right, we're going to season it up.
7:06
I need to season, season, season.
7:09
About 1/4 teaspoon of salt. We're going
7:11
to check for seasonings later to make
7:13
sure that the flavors were where we want
7:15
them. Black pepper. I'm just going
7:18
across the top. Garlic powder,
7:21
onion powder, and we're going to give it
7:24
some smoky flavor. Smoked paprika. If
7:27
you don't have it, you can use regular
7:29
paprika.
7:31
Let's stir this all together.
7:36
Oh, that looks so good. Now, we're going
7:39
to let it sim for just a few minutes.
7:43
Kind of pull all those flavors together.
7:46
Lock them in there. I'm going clean off
7:48
the sides there.
7:54
It'll help with the presentation.
7:56
All right, we're going to turn off the
7:58
heat. Grab you a bag of tater tots. Now,
8:03
I'm using the crispy crowns. Pull them
8:05
right out of the freezer. You don't have
8:07
to thaw these out.
8:11
And then we're going to start layering
8:13
them in there.
8:15
All right, I'm going to start in the
8:16
center. We're just going to work our way
8:17
around. Just press them into the
8:19
mixture.
8:29
Yeah, this is going to be a good one,
8:30
you guys.
8:32
Now, I'm using the crowns. If you want
8:34
to use the regular tater tots, you can
8:35
do that also. Totally fine. I would lay
8:38
them sideways
8:42
so they get really crispy.
8:44
We still have one more layer for this.
8:47
It's a really easy layer.
8:50
There we go. I think we got them all.
8:51
That's pretty enough, right? What do
8:53
y'all think? Oh, look at that.
8:56
Pretty. This bag of tater crowns was 30
8:59
oz and we got about oneird of the bag
9:01
left. So, that's good. We can use it for
9:04
something else. All right, you guys.
9:06
I've got my oven preheating to 400°.
9:09
We're going to bake this for about 25 to
9:12
30 minutes until those tater tots are
9:14
nice and crispy, golden brown on the
9:17
top. Now, just remember that if you are
9:20
using a standard skillet that is not
9:22
oven proof, you can pour this into a
9:26
small baking dish and then you can top
9:28
it with your tater tots. My oven is
9:30
preheated. All right. Now, if you're
9:32
using an oven proof, just keep just do
9:34
what you're doing here. Pop it in the
9:36
oven. I'm back, you guys.
9:43
Got 8 oz of shredded cheddar cheese
9:46
going on top.
9:50
Or as much as you want. Smells
9:53
delicious.
9:57
And we've got some green onions.
10:04
Back in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes
10:07
till that cheese is nice and melted.
10:10
Did you get your big spoon? It's ready
10:12
to go. Let's dive in. Tater tot sloppy
10:17
joe casserole. Oo. Do y'all see that?
10:31
Look at that.
10:33
Few more little green onions on top.
10:42
It just needs one more thing. A fork. Oh
10:47
my goodness, you guys. Look at that.
10:52
Layers of goodness there. Smells
10:55
delicious.
10:57
Let me give this a try for you.
11:15
That is delicious.
11:19
If you've never put barbecue sauce in a
11:22
sloppy joe, you need to try that. Makes
11:25
it nice and hearty. Holds up to those
11:27
tater tots. Oh my gosh, it is so
11:30
delicious.
11:32
All right, you guys. What an easy weekn
11:34
night meal to put together that your
11:36
family will just gobble up. Give me a
11:39
thumbs up on this one. If you're new to
