Welcome back everyone. Today we are
0:02
going to make a deli style mile high
0:06
sandwich. Let me take you back.
0:08
Scooby-Doo and Shaggy made a delicious
0:11
mile high sandwich. And they would take
0:13
everything out of the refrigerator, pile
0:15
it all high on a Hogy bun, smash it
0:17
down, and eat it. That's what this is
0:22
going to be. So, it's a towering
0:24
flavorpacked
0:26
sandwich with lots of textures and
0:29
flavor profiles going on in this one.
0:32
All right, if you're ready, we're going
0:33
to go ahead and get started.
0:36
First thing we're going to start with is
0:39
the loaf of French bread. Now, I just
0:43
got this from my Walmart store. It was
0:46
$162.
0:48
So, what's great about making this
0:49
sandwich is a lot of the stuff that
0:51
you're going to use is going to come
0:52
right out of your refrigerator or maybe
0:54
even some ingredients from your pantry.
0:57
Look how fresh this looks. So, you can
0:59
either use a French bread loaf or you
1:01
could use some hogy buns, but let me
1:03
tell you, this is very soft, nice and
1:07
squishy. It's going to make a delicious
1:09
sandwich. So, we're going to take a
1:11
serrated bread knife and we want to cut
1:14
the bread lengthwise
1:16
to have a top and a bottom. So, you're
1:20
going to start on one end
1:22
and just drag your knife through. Go
1:25
slow
1:27
and check and make sure that you're
1:28
following
1:31
evenly across your bread.
1:35
Just take a look at it every now and
1:36
then because you don't want to go all
1:38
the way down and then slice it right
1:39
off. Okay. So, just go slow. That way
1:42
you have the perfect
1:44
amount of bread on the top and the
1:46
bottom.
1:49
That looks good.
2:00
There we go.
2:01
Now, what you want to do is we're going
2:04
to remove some of the bread from the
2:06
inside of the loaf here. And that will
2:08
give our ingredients a place to sit
2:11
without falling out. And we can use this
2:14
for croutons if you want to do that. So,
2:16
I'm just going to go down just a little
2:18
bit and then just pull out some of it.
2:20
You don't want to go all the way down
2:21
and rip it out. Okay? Just just like
2:24
this right here. Let me get a bowl.
2:32
And then you make croutons with this,
2:34
you guys. Or you can dry this out. And
2:37
then you can pulse it into a fine crumb
2:39
and use it for breadcrumbs, for your
2:41
meatloaf, your meatballs, whatever you
2:44
like. We're not going to lose that
2:46
bread. We're going to use it for
2:47
something else.
2:49
So, don't go down too deep. Just
2:52
We're going to still leave some texture
2:53
of the bread in there. It smells so
2:55
delicious. It's very fresh. All
2:59
right. And we're keeping the loaf
3:01
intact.
3:03
All right. We're going to do this one
3:04
right here. Yeah, that'll make a lot of
3:07
breadcrumbs or some really good croutons
3:10
also. All right, let's set our bread
3:12
over here for a second. We're going to
3:15
bring over a small bowl
3:18
and a whisk.
3:20
And we're going to bring over some
3:21
mayonnaise
3:23
and mustard. We're going to combine them
3:26
together. So, we're going to make a nice
3:29
sauce for the sandwich. Two tablespoons
3:32
of mayonnaise, about one and two.
3:38
And then one tablespoon
3:41
of yellow mustard, or you can use a deli
3:44
style mustard or a dijon, whatever you
3:46
like. Then we're going to add in about
3:48
one tablespoon of the mustard.
3:54
Now, if you need more mayonnaise, you
3:55
can do that also. We got a lot of things
3:57
going into our sandwich, so this is just
3:59
going to wet our bread on the inside.
4:05
Should have a nice color like that. Now,
4:08
we're going to get a spatula and we're
4:10
going to slather this all over the
4:12
inside of our bread. So, I'm going to
4:14
take half of it
4:18
and spread it in.
4:24
Now, you're not going to want to put too
4:25
much in there because you don't want it
4:26
to get too wet.
4:31
I may use this for this loaf and then
4:33
make some more.
4:35
All right, that was for this loaf here.
4:38
That right there.
4:42
And I am going to make another batch
4:46
for that bottom one.
4:50
One, two, and then one. What was I
4:54
thinking? Blend that together and then
4:56
we'll slather it on.
4:59
This sandwich is going to be really
5:00
great for everything that you have in
5:02
your refrigerator. So, whatever I'm
5:04
doing, you can certainly do it a little
5:06
different. Add what you want.
5:11
There we go. All right. Now, this will
5:15
give it a nice tanginess and kind of a
5:17
smoothness to our sandwich. Now, if you
5:20
don't like the mustard, you don't have
5:21
to put the mustard on at all. Just put
5:23
your mayonnaise. Let's start building up
5:25
our sandwich. We're going to start with
5:28
some nice crisp
5:31
iceberg lettuce, shredded. I have a bag
5:35
right here with some leftover in there.
5:37
We'll put some of that right on the
5:39
bottom. So, let's move the top off.
5:42
Let's put the bottom here. And we're
5:44
going to put a nice
5:47
handful of lettuce on the bottom.
5:50
Mhm. That lettuce is going to give it a
5:53
nice little crunch, which is what we're
5:55
looking for.
5:57
Pack it down.
5:59
What's your favorite deli to get a
6:01
sandwich from? We like Jersey Mike's.
6:04
That's a good one. Let us know. I'm
6:08
going to bring over some veggies here.
6:13
There we go.
6:15
And I got a tomato.
6:17
I'm going to make some slices.
6:23
Oh, look at that juicy tomato.
6:27
The tomato is going to add a nice
6:29
freshness.
6:32
So, let's load it on. I think what I'm
6:35
going to do is cut them in half.
6:38
I'm just using the same serrated knife
6:40
that I used for the bread. All right,
6:42
we're going to pop it on in there.
6:51
Yep. If you cut them in half, they'll
6:52
fit into that.
6:56
And we'll just go all the way down with
6:58
it. So, every bite will have that tomato
7:01
in it.
7:09
Now I am going to season up my tomatoes.
7:11
Got some cracked black pepper.
7:16
I'm not going to put any salt on the
7:19
tomatoes right here because we are going
7:20
to be putting on some cheese and some
7:24
meats here. And I don't want the salt on
7:26
top of the salt. We're going to start
7:28
with the meats. I've got some turkey.
7:32
You can use deli turkey or if you have
7:34
leftover turkey from the holidays you're
7:35
trying to use up.
7:38
So, I'm going to layer this right across
7:39
the top with the the turkey. And then we
7:43
got some roast beef.
7:45
Oh, that roast beef smells so good. That
7:48
turkey is going to add like a savoriness
7:50
to the dish. And the roast beef will
7:53
give it that meatiness that we like in a
7:55
deli sandwich.
7:57
And like I said, you can change this up
7:59
any way you want.
8:02
If you want to add pastrami, you can do
8:04
that. Salami.
8:10
All right, we got down here. Now, I've
8:13
got some ham. Now, to me, this is very
8:16
budget friendly because you're pulling
8:18
everything out of your refrigerator to
8:21
make this. So, whatever you got, clean
8:23
it out. It's almost like everything but
8:25
the kitchen sink sandwich.
8:28
Now, this is ham.
8:30
like a black forest ham. I'm going to be
8:33
putting that on. And then grab your
8:35
cheeses because we're going to layer
8:37
some cheese on top. All right, I've got
8:40
some slices of Swiss cheese that I'm
8:42
going to put on top. Just going to go
8:44
right across the top with it.
8:48
And then I got another thing of cheese.
8:51
This is a
8:53
it's a cheddar cheese. It's a white
8:55
cheddar.
8:56
So, I'm just going to put that on top.
9:03
All right. I'm going to break that in
9:04
half and put that down here. And then
9:06
put this one down here.
9:08
Now, to give it some more crunch to our
9:10
sandwich, I've got some sandwich dill
9:14
chips.
9:16
We'll place those going across the top.
9:27
Now, if you want to create one sandwich,
9:30
you can use this bread and just cut it
9:32
the way you want it, or you can use
9:33
those hogy buns if you want to do that.
9:38
And
9:40
got one right there. Now, I'm using a
9:44
cucumber. I've already washed it off.
9:46
These are those mini cucumbers. I'm
9:48
going to leave the skins on.
9:52
I'm going to do these at a diagonal
9:58
and then we'll lay these right across
9:59
our sandwich.
10:01
All right. While I've got my knife and
10:02
cutting board, I'm going to go ahead and
10:04
slice up some red onion very thinly.
10:12
Make them into nice rings. And we'll put
10:14
that across our sandwich. Now, if you
10:16
don't like onion on it, you don't have
10:17
to put that on. I'm just going to layer
10:19
it across
10:22
This is a very delicious sandwich. Now,
10:25
you can make this very low carb and do
10:28
the whole thing in a wrap. Take a
10:30
tortilla and wrap everything up in it.
10:31
You can do that. Or you can just take
10:33
everything, chop it all up, put it in a
10:35
bowl, and then you got a salad for your
10:38
new year.
10:42
But Thomas is like, "What? A salad?
10:45
Where'd that come from?"
10:47
It's the Senate.
10:49
It is. All right. I've got my cucumber
10:51
slices. So, I'm going to lay those
10:52
across the top.
10:55
We're still busy here. We're going to
10:58
add some banana peppers. Now, these are
11:00
mild. And these are the rings. We'll
11:03
just put those across.
11:09
You want everything to have a bite of
11:10
everything. You want to skimp on
11:13
somebody. They're going to be mad at
11:14
you. Some cracked black pepper.
11:19
Grab your top and place that mayonnaise
11:22
mustard mixture on top of the veggies.
11:27
Now, I'm going to show you how we're
11:28
going to make this like a deli style.
11:30
All right. What we're going to do is lay
11:32
out a sheet of plastic wrap or you can
11:34
use foil if you want to do that. We're
11:37
going to lay our sandwich on it. Very
11:39
carefully pick it up.
11:44
All right. We're going to wrap up our
11:46
sandwich nice and tight.
11:49
This is going to help meld all of the
11:52
flavors
11:53
down with it.
11:58
And then we're going to
12:00
lay it down. All right. Now that you
12:02
have your sandwich all wrapped up, now
12:04
you can use parchment, the plastic wrap,
12:06
or the foil. I'm just going to put a
12:08
heavy cutting board on top. We're going
12:10
to let it press it down a little bit.
12:13
Flattens it down.
12:15
Just press down on it. Let it sit there
12:18
for about 10 minutes. And that's going
12:21
to help meld all of those flavors
12:23
together and pull the sandwich together.
12:26
Now, this is a great make ahead meal
12:29
because you can make this, wrap it up,
12:30
and put it in your refrigerator and let
12:32
all those flavors just come together.
12:34
You can do that overnight. You can even
12:37
half this sandwich, half and then half
12:39
later. That's
12:40
Yeah, we ain't doing that.
12:41
That's what's great about this sandwich.
12:44
All right. So, I'm taking off the
12:45
plastic wrap.
12:50
Now, what you want to do is cut this at
12:52
a diagonal. And we're going to go like
12:54
one, let's see, I'm going to go one
12:56
right here in the center. Use a serrated
12:59
knife to cut through your bread.
13:04
Now, if you want to make it like right
13:05
away and eat it right away, you can
13:07
toast the bread first and then build
13:10
your sandwich if you like toasty bread
13:12
from your deli.
13:15
And then I'm going to cut it again.
13:17
You know, football is still on and it's
13:19
happening. And the Texans are on their
13:21
way. They already had a victory, right?
13:24
Yeah.
13:25
So, we're excited about that because
13:26
yes, we are in Texas, you guys.
13:31
All right, y'all ready for that big
13:33
reveal of our Scooby-Doo sandwich?
13:36
Actually, it's our mile high sandwich,
13:38
right? That they made. That's where our
13:40
inspiration comes from.
13:43
Who needs Jason's deli?
13:46
Make yours at home a lot cheaper.
13:50
I'm going to take a bite for you.
14:04
Doesn't hurt to have good fresh bread.
14:08
That is delicious.
14:11
You can even cut those again if you want
14:13
to do that. Make little mini sandwiches.
14:15
Put it on a board
14:18
for whoever you're rooting for for
14:20
football. You know who we are.
14:24
All right, you guys. What do you think
14:25
of my Mile High sandwich? What's in your
14:28
Mile High sandwich? Scooby-Doo wants to
14:31
know. Shaggy does, too. Right.
14:34
Oh, that used to be my favorite cartoon
14:36
show back in the day.
14:39
All right, you guys. Give me a thumbs up
14:40
