Equipment

  • standard size muffin tin (12 cup)
  • skillet

Ingredients

  • 4 medium red apples (any variety, as long as they are red)
  • 1 box frozen puff pastry sheets (2 pack) thawed
  • 3-4 TBS flour, to dust work surface
  • 4 TBS apricot preserves
  • 1 egg white, whisked
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1-2 TBS ground cinnamon
  • powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a standard 12 cup muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Wash, dry, and core apples. Cut apples in half and slice very thin. (Leave peels on apples, to give a pretty decoration for the blossoms.)
  • Place apple slices into a skillet over medium heat. Stir apples continually until softened until pliable. (Don't over soften, as you don't want them mushy.)
NOTE: (you can also put apple slices into a microwave safe bowl. Cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 seconds until softened.)
  • Place softened apples in a bowl to cool while preparing pastry dough.
  • To prepare pastry, dust a clean work surface with 1 TBS flour. Open up one thawed puff pastry sheet and place on dusted work surface. Using a rolling pin, thin out pastry sheet into a rectangular shape.
Using a pizza cutter, make 6 short strips 3 inches wide.
  • In a small bowl, heat 3 TBS apricot preserves in microwave for 1 minute. Brush warmed preserves onto each strip to cover entirely.
  • Place apple slices onto strip. (make sure that the peel edges of apple hangs off the edge of the dough.)
(DON'T forget you can check out the video directions for this on my YOUTUBE video below to visually see how I make these, if needed.)
  • Take each apple slice and overlap each other down the length of the dough strip. All apple peel edges should be hanging off the dough sheet.
  • Fold the long edge of the dough sheet over the apples. (The apples should be covered halfway with the dough sheet.)
Baste the dough with the egg wash.
  • Starting at one end of the prepared dough sheet, start rolling the dough making sure to keep the apples tucked in. Roll all the way to the other end. Should resemble a rose or blossom.
  • In small bowl mix together sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle sugar mixture onto each apple blossom and place each one into a prepared muffin tin cup with apples upwards.
  • Prepare rest of apple blossoms. Bake for 40-45 minutes until puff pastry is baked through and golden brown. Remove from muffin tin right away and allow to cool completely.
  • Dust the apple blossoms with powdered sugar. Enjoy.
