Kentucky Derby Chocolate Pie

Ingredients
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup butter, melted & cooled slightly
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup pecan pieces
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 unbaked 9" deep dish pie shell, thawed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl whisk together sugar and flour. Add in eggs, butter, and vanilla. Mix well to combine using a wooden spoon. Stir in pecans and chocolate chips. Pour mixture into pie crust. NOTE: make sure pie shell is in a pie dish. The frozen pie crusts usually come in a foil pie dish. If making your own homemade crust insert into a pie dish.
- Bake for 60 minutes until golden brown. Insert toothpick in middle of pie and it should come out clean.NOTE: If pie crust starts to brown halfway through cooking time, cover with foil or a pie ring and continue to bake.
- Cool pie completely before serving.
