Equipment

  • cutting board
  • bread knife
  • 9 x 13 baking pan
  • 2 medium bowls
  • measuring cups & spoons
  • spatulas
  • opt: sifter or whisk

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ct) package original King's Hawaiian Rolls
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Icing

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 TBS melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1-2 TBS milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9 x 13 baking pan.
  • Slice rolls in half lengthwise, keeping the rolls altogether. Remove top sheet of the rolls from the bottoms and place on a plate. Place bottom layer of rolls into prepared baking pan, keeping hem altogether.
  • In a medium bowl mix mix together butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Spread 2/3 of the butter mixture onto the bottom rolls in the baking pan evenly. Place the top sheet of the rolls on top of the butter mixture coated rolls in baking pan. (Make sure the tops of the top layer is facing up, should look like a sandwich.)
  • Spread remaining butter mixture on the tops of the rolls evenly. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes uncovered until heated through and butter mixture has melted.
  • In another medium mixing bowl combine powdered sugar, melted butter, salt, vanilla, and 1-2 TBS milk. Mixture should have a drizzle consistency. Drizzle over tops of warm cinnamon rolls.
NOTE: you make the icing thicker and spread on the tops of rolls.
NOTE: for a thinner icing add more milk, for a thicker icing add more powdered sugar.
NOTE: you can sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps for a smoother consistency.
