One Pot Sloppy Joe Ground Beef & Rice

Equipment

  • deep large skillet or large pot
  • cutting board & sharp knife
  • measuring cups & spoons
  • spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup water
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup uncooked white long grain rice
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 TBS brown sugar
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheese

Instructions

  • In a large deep skillet over medium high heat, brown ground beef. Drain excess grease. Add in onion & bell pepper, cook until softened.
  • Add in chicken broth and water. Season with salt & black pepper, to taste. Bring to a boil. Stir in rice. Place a lid on skillet, lower heat to a low setting, cook for 20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid has cooked out.
  • Stir in ketchup, seasonings, Worcestershire, mustard, and brown sugar. Simmer for 4-5 minutes to blend all flavors. Turn off heat.
  • Top with cheese. Place lid on to allow cheese to melt. Sprinkle dried parsley on top and enjoy.
