Welcome back everyone. Today I am going
0:03
to show you how to make better than
0:05
anything cake. We're gonna take a box of
0:09
chocolate cake mix and we're going to
0:11
take it over the top very easily though.
0:14
This cake is dedicated to my husband
0:17
Thomas who has put up with me for the
0:19
last few weeks and my nerves, my
0:22
anxiety, and my stress over
0:25
having to have cataract surgery in both
0:28
eyes. But I did it on Monday and I'm not
0:32
supposed to wear any makeup this week or
0:34
do anything heavy or anything that I can
0:36
let my eyes heal. But I am going to make
0:40
him a cake cuz he deserves it. Putting
0:42
up with me. Yeah, he's not here right
0:45
now. So, this is kind of a surprise. All
0:48
right. That's right. We're going to take
0:50
a boxed cake mix. This is a devil's
0:53
food. You can use whatever chocolate
0:56
cake that you want. And we're gonna make
0:58
this
1:00
first. We'll make the cake first and
1:03
then we're going to do all kinds of
1:04
yummy stuff to it to make it so
1:06
decadent, rich, and delicious. People
1:09
are going to think you got it from a
1:11
bakery.
1:13
And speaking of bakery,
1:19
maybe I might need to get my eyes
1:20
checked again.
1:22
Speaking of bakery,
1:25
we're going to make it bakery style.
1:28
Now, if y'all have ever heard of a
1:29
bakery style cake is you just take the
1:32
ingredients on the back of the box and
1:34
change them up. And that's what we're
1:36
going to do. Okay, you guys, you ready?
1:38
We're going to start in a large mixing
1:41
bowl
1:43
and add our cake mix.
1:53
Y'all like these little cups right here?
1:55
I've had these for a while. I use them
1:57
individually, but then they looked so
1:58
cute for this recipe here. These came
2:00
from my brother Donald and his wife
2:03
Donna a couple of years ago. So, we're
2:06
going to use that. So, in the largest
2:09
one over here, we got three eggs. I
2:12
brought them to room temperature. That
2:13
way, they don't seize up in the mix
2:15
here. So, we're going to crack them in,
2:18
which means I'm going to take them out,
2:20
crack them into the bowl here. That way,
2:22
we don't get shells.
2:26
That's one.
2:30
Think I'm going to put them all in,
2:34
two,
2:37
and three.
2:40
And a shell.
2:43
One, two, and three.
2:47
The cake mix calls for one cup of water.
2:49
You can do that or you can add the one
2:52
cup of milk
2:55
and it also calls for half a cup of oil
2:58
like Crisco oil, canola oil or anything
3:01
like that. I'm using half a cup of
3:04
melted butter.
3:07
Now I cool that down just a little bit
3:10
so it doesn't scramble our eggs.
3:14
And then now this isn't on the box, but
3:16
we're gonna add some flavor. I've got
3:18
one teaspoon of vanilla.
3:25
All right. You can take a whisk and kind
3:27
of blend that all together or a wooden
3:28
spoon. I'm just going to use my electric
3:30
hand mixer because it kind of whiffs in
3:32
some air
3:34
and makes it nice and moist, fluffy,
3:39
and that's what we want. All right,
3:40
we're going to blend this for 2 minutes.
3:43
[Music]
3:48
Now, as you're mixing this, just take
3:50
your spatula and pull down the sides.
3:52
That way, everything gets nice and
3:54
incorporated.
3:57
Woo! That looks nice and fluffy in
3:59
there. Nice and combined.
4:05
All right, we're done with the mixer.
4:09
All
4:10
right. Don't forget to spray a 9 by13
4:13
baking dish with some non-stick cooking
4:15
spray.
4:19
Make sure I get it good.
4:22
And then we're going to put the cake
4:24
batter into our baking dish. Now, this
4:28
is a 9 by13. Did I say that?
4:32
Oh, look how decadent that looks. Nice
4:35
and smooth,
4:38
y'all. Whip some air into it.
4:42
Make a nice fluffy cake.
4:45
Make it stand up tall, too.
4:48
All right, we're going to smooth it out
4:50
nice and even.
4:55
All right, we're going to bake the cake
4:57
at 350°
5:00
and we're going to follow the directions
5:01
on the back of the cake box for the 9
5:04
by13, which is going to be 28 to 33
5:07
minutes. Take a toothpick, insert it
5:09
into the center of the cake. If it comes
5:11
out clean, you're good to go. We're
5:13
going to cool it down for about 10
5:15
minutes, and then we're going to finish
5:16
the cake up.
5:18
Okay, I've pulled the cake out of the
5:20
oven. And I did a toothpick test and it
5:23
came out clean.
5:27
Now we're going to poke some holes. We
5:29
got to get some good stuff inside the
5:31
cake. Y'all look at that.
5:36
Perfectly all the way across. I'm going
5:38
to take the back end of a kitchen
5:42
utensil, kind of like a wooden spoon or
5:44
anything with a wooden handle, and we're
5:46
going to poke holes. Now, if you have a
5:49
large straw, you can use that. You want
5:51
them large enough so they can get the
5:53
ingredients inside of it. All right.
5:57
So, just poke through.
6:02
Make some room between the holes.
6:16
And we'll come down to the end here.
6:20
Just like that.
6:23
We're going to open up one can of
6:25
sweetened condensed milk. This is 14 oz.
6:30
And what we want to do is pour it all
6:33
into the holes.
6:35
Y'all, this stuff is good. M.
6:40
Mhm.
6:41
Delicious. All right. I'm going to start
6:44
right here.
6:48
There we go. Aim for the holes. That way
6:51
goes all the way down into the bottom.
6:58
We're going to go this way. And then
6:59
we'll go back the other way.
7:03
Just keep going till we empty out the
7:05
cam.
7:15
There we go. Just like that. Oh, told
7:19
y'all this is going to be a very
7:20
decadent cake. We're taking a chocolate
7:23
boxed cake mix. Taking it over the top.
7:30
Caramel sauce. Now, I like to get the
7:33
squeeze bottle,
7:35
and that's what I'm using right here.
7:37
All right, we're going to aim for the
7:38
holes.
7:40
Get some caramel in there.
7:48
This will be fun to have some fun with
7:50
that. Save some caramel for the topping
7:54
of our cake here. So, I'm just going to
7:57
go like this.
8:02
probably used half of the bottle.
8:05
Have in the same bottle chocolate sauce.
8:11
And we're going to do the same thing.
8:13
Aim for the holes.
8:21
Where do y'all want to take this cake?
8:25
some kind of event
8:28
church function.
8:32
Fall is right here.
8:35
Now I'm going to go across the top.
8:50
What we're going to do now is cool down
8:52
the cake completely before we top it and
8:55
finish it off. So, you can stick this in
8:58
the refrigerator to do that or just set
9:00
it on your countertop. I would put a
9:01
rack underneath of it so that the cool
9:03
air can go underneath of it and cool it
9:04
faster for you. All right, I'll be back.
9:07
We're going to finish this off and then
9:09
I have a special person
9:12
who's going to give this a try for you.
9:14
All right, we've got the cake nice and
9:17
chilled.
9:19
We're going to top it with some cool
9:20
whip.
9:22
Now, you can make your own homemade
9:23
whipped topping if you want to do that,
9:27
but I was trying to keep this cake nice
9:29
and simple for you guys.
9:34
So, I'm going to dollop it everywhere.
9:36
And we got some other things we're going
9:38
to put on top really quickly. This will
9:41
be a refrigerated cake because of the
9:43
cool whip on top. So, just keep that in
9:46
mind.
9:48
You don't want to leave it out on your
9:49
countertop.
9:52
I'm just going to kind of smooth it out.
9:54
Give it some peaks. Give it some depth
9:57
here. There we go. That look good, you
10:00
guys.
10:01
Thomas is here. Say hi to Thomas.
10:05
I don't hear nobody.
10:06
He made it back. We've got some Heath
10:10
English toffee bits.
10:13
That's going to make Thomas happy.
10:15
Heck yeah. I haven't had freaking toffee
10:19
in years.
10:21
All right, that's what they look like
10:23
right here.
10:25
We're going to sprinkle them on top.
10:28
This is better than anything, you guys.
10:32
Oh, look at that.
10:36
Keep going.
10:37
Keep going.
10:37
He's like, keep going.
10:40
I'm saving the rest. You know why? I saw
10:43
a recipe on the back here for the toffee
10:45
bits. Chocolate chip cookies.
10:47
Oo,
10:48
you know we got to make those.
10:50
Save them.
10:51
Yes. Save them. All right, we're still
10:55
going strong. We saved some caramel
10:58
sauce. Drizzle it on.
11:03
Caramel.
11:06
Do you say caramel or caramel? What do
11:09
you say?
11:09
Caramel.
11:11
Caramel. Look at that. Woo. Looks
11:14
delicious.
11:17
Smells delicious, too. All right, we've
11:20
got the chocolate sauce still.
11:29
All right, where are y'all taking this
11:31
cake to? Huh?
11:33
I'm taking it to my room with a spoon,
11:39
y'all. Let's go give him a spoon and
11:41
he's going to give this a try for you.
11:43
There we go, you guys. is I've got
11:45
Thomas's piece right here. Notice I
11:48
don't have a fork cuz he's coming over
11:50
with his. All right, give it a try.
11:54
There's so many layers and flavors going
11:57
on in this cake.
12:06
What do you think?
12:07
Go sit down.
12:09
He's not going anywhere yet.
12:11
Oh god.
12:11
All right, you guys. Here's my rock
12:14
through my cataract surgery even
12:17
beforehand and even had my mom on the
12:19
phone calming me down. And of course, I
12:23
had God on my side also. So without
12:26
those three,
12:27
she wasn't that bad.
12:31
But I survived it. Both cataract
12:33
surgeries at the same time. They did one
12:35
eye, then they went right into the other
12:37
eye and got them both done at the same
12:39
time. She came out like a trooper.
12:42
Of course, she was flying high.
12:44
They gave me some good stuff to get
12:46
through it. So,
12:47
they could tell she was ready to run out
12:49
of the room, so they loaded her down.
12:52
It's been, let's see, we we had it done
12:55
on Monday. So, it's been four days.
12:59
So, feeling pretty good. Can see y'all
13:02
really well.
13:03
Yep.
13:04
Hello, everyone. But now we got to go
13:06
back and vacation to some places that we
13:09
were at.
13:09
So I can really see where we went.
13:11
She can really see it.
13:14
All right, you guys. Did you get the
13:15
crunch of the coffee bits in there?
13:17
Everything. It's super moist from the
13:21
whatever you put.
13:21
Oh, everything I put into the holes of
13:24
the cake. Yeah. The condensed milk,
13:26
caramel, and the chocolate that went
13:27
into all of those holes. Smooth it out
13:29
with some Cool Whip. Then top it again.
13:33
And then give it some crunch. All right,
13:35
you guys. Thumbs up. Hope to see you on
13:37
the next video. I've got a soup recipe
13:40
coming out for you guys. And then Thomas
13:41
and I are making candy.
13:44
Yep.
13:44
It's coming up soon, too. All right, you
13:47
guys. Bye
13:48
bye.
