Merry Christmas everyone. It is cookie
0:03
day. I am going to show you how to make
0:05
a classic M&M cookie. Now you can make
0:08
these soft and chewy or you can even
0:11
make these kind of flat and nice and
0:12
crispy on the edges. Now this recipe
0:15
comes out of my Catherine's Plates easy
0:18
delectible desserts recipe cookbook in
0:21
the cookie section. You can even find
0:23
this recipe on my blog cathplates.com
0:27
where you can find all of my cookbooks.
0:29
Also, now this is Joseph's favorite
0:31
cookie, and I think it's become Megan's.
0:34
Also, if you don't know, Joseph and
0:37
Megan got married a few days ago, and
0:41
they need some cookies. They need some
0:43
holiday cheer. They went through a lot
0:45
with their wedding, so let's move them
0:47
into the holiday stage now. So, we're
0:49
going to bring them some cookies. All
0:50
right, you guys. This is an easy recipe.
0:52
I mean, if you've been baking already,
0:54
you know you have this stuff right here.
0:57
So, let's put this one together. Grab
0:59
you a large mixing bowl and let's start
1:01
with that. Now, in our large mixing
1:04
bowl, we're going to add in 1/3 cup of
1:07
brown sugar. Now, we want to make sure
1:09
it's packed. So, go in and just kind of
1:11
press down as you're pulling it out.
1:13
That's what I'm going to do. Like that.
1:16
We'll add that.
1:18
And then we're going to add half a cup
1:20
of white granulated sugar.
1:30
And then to that we're going to add one
1:32
stick or half a cup of melted butter.
1:35
Now I just cooled that down just a
1:37
little bit.
1:40
Now we're going to take the electric
1:42
hand mixer. Now we're going to cream
1:44
this together for 2 minutes.
1:50
Yeah, they had a beautiful wedding. It
1:53
was small and very intimate with just
1:55
close family members just the way they
1:57
wanted it. They didn't want anything
1:59
big. I doubt if they could have even
2:01
handled that.
2:03
Thomas and I had a small wedding also.
2:06
It was just perfect.
2:08
Uh but it was very nice. They had the
2:11
reception afterwards and it was just
2:13
really nice wedding. I will insert a
2:15
picture of the four of us right here for
2:18
y'all to see. We haven't gone through
2:19
all the pictures yet. um we're trying to
2:23
determine what to put out online because
2:24
we had other family there on her side
2:28
with children and we didn't want to
2:30
incorporate them unless we had
2:32
permission to do that. So anyway, but
2:35
you'll get to see the main characters.
2:38
Okay. Now, what we're going to do is
2:40
crack in one egg. Now, at this stage, I
2:43
just like to crack it into a bowl. Let
2:45
me get a little bigger bowl. I don't
2:47
know if it'll fit in there.
2:50
There we go.
2:53
Make sure no shells are in there.
2:58
Then we're going to add in two teaspoon
3:00
of vanilla extract.
3:04
Yeah. Whole two. It's going to give us
3:06
some nice flavor.
3:10
One and two. [snorts] All right, let's
3:13
beat this up just until combined.
3:22
Doesn't take very long.
3:25
All right, we're going to go ahead now
3:26
and in a separate bowl, we're just going
3:28
to whisk in the dry ingredients.
3:30
I'm going to need 1 and 1/2 cups of
3:33
allpurpose flour. There we go. So, I got
3:37
half a cup
3:39
and I'm going to go in three times.
3:43
[snorts]
3:47
There we go.
3:50
[snorts] All right, let's give it some
3:51
leavenning. [sighs]
3:53
Help these cookies puff up a little bit.
3:55
We've got baking powder, one teaspoon.
4:02
And then we've got baking soda, which is
4:04
going to be half a teaspoon.
4:12
Half.
4:16
And then we've got [snorts] to change
4:18
your measuring spoon when you have the
4:20
one that has the
4:23
adjust
4:23
adjustable thing on it.
4:27
And we'll really have some puffy uh
4:29
cookies. And then 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
4:34
All right. I'm going to take a whisk and
4:36
we're going to blend this together.
4:39
Doesn't take very long.
4:44
We're going to add it all in to our
4:47
batter.
4:55
And then we'll mix this together till
4:57
it's well combined.
5:03
Start slow so you don't have flour going
5:05
everywhere.
5:07
These are not the avalanche cookies
5:09
which are in the cookbook also. All
5:12
right. You're just doing this just to
5:13
incorporate everything. We don't want to
5:15
over mix. So, I'm going to come up a
5:18
little bit. Get all that batter off.
5:21
There we go.
5:24
All right. I'm just taking a spatula and
5:26
just going around the sides, making sure
5:27
all the flour's in. Now, we're going to
5:30
take 10 oz. This is one pack of M&M's.
5:34
These are the holiday blend. They're
5:36
milk chocolate.
5:39
You can use any M&M's you want.
5:43
We're going to add them in. And then
5:44
we'll just fold it in with our spatula.
5:52
Yeah, that'll make Joseph happy. Okay,
5:57
that was not Joseph. That was Thomas.
6:02
He's got a special show for you guys,
6:04
too, coming up.
6:06
It'll be a fun one
6:08
on his channel, The Rational Reviewer.
6:13
All right, we got them all mixed in.
6:15
Look at that. Yeah.
6:23
Now, we're going to go in with a 1 and
6:24
1/2 inch cookie scoop. This will help
6:27
make all of our cookies the same size
6:29
and cook perfectly. All right, we have
6:32
that right there. We're going to place
6:33
it on our sheetpan, which I've lined
6:36
with some parchment paper. We'll just
6:39
place it on. And we'll just keep doing
6:42
that.
6:43
Leave some space in between. You want
6:46
about 2 in between each cookie. So, I'm
6:50
going to put three of them on here. We
6:51
have to do several sheet pans. We will.
6:54
We'll keep one pan of cookies here.
6:56
Darn two.
6:59
Oh, look at all those M&M's.
7:04
love M&M cookies. They're so festive.
7:09
All right,
7:11
get that one. I'm going to move this one
7:13
down just a little bit.
7:21
Love how fast these cookies come
7:23
together, huh?
7:26
I've got my oven preheated at 350°.
7:30
Now, if you want rounded, soft, chewy
7:34
cookies, leave them mounded on your
7:36
sheetpan. If you want kind of a flat
7:39
cookie that's nice and crispy on the
7:42
outside of the cookies, take a piece of
7:44
parchment, lay it on top of the cookie,
7:46
and just flatten it down. All right,
7:48
we're going to bake these for about 8 to
7:50
10 minutes. It may take a little longer
7:52
on the first go around because it I
7:54
don't know why that always happens, but
7:55
on your second batch, usually takes less
7:58
time. All right, I'll be back. I'm going
8:00
to finish off the second batch. I'm
8:02
probably going to make the flatter
8:03
cookies. Now, let your cookies sit on
8:05
the pan for 1 to two minutes until they
8:08
set up. And then you can remove them to
8:11
the cooling rack to finish cooling down.
8:15
Look at these. Woo! These are the soft
8:18
and chewy ones.
8:35
All right. Now, this batch made 24
8:37
cookies. Now, this side are the soft and
8:41
chewy cookies, and these side are the
8:44
crispy flat cookies. So, we'll take one
8:47
right here. Oh, yeah. Can y'all hear
8:50
that?
8:54
So, the M&M's going to make it nice and
8:56
soft on the inside. And then you can see
8:58
the edges are nice and crispy, golden
9:01
brown on the bottom. That's that cookie.
9:04
And then on the soft cookies right here.
9:07
Yeah. You see that softness of the
9:09
cookie? That's going to give you that
9:11
nice chew. And it's still golden brown
9:14
on the cookie also. All right. I'm going
9:17
to give a try for that nice and crispy
9:20
cookie right here.
9:27
Mhm.
9:30
That's the way I love my M&M cookies.
9:34
Joseph will like it like this, too.
9:37
I bet Megan will like the soft and
9:39
chewy. Thomas does. You like the soft
9:42
and chewy?
9:42
I do.
9:43
Here you go.
9:45
Yay.
9:47
Getting to wonder if I was going to get
9:49
to have one or not. No, not
9:54
good.
9:56
You know, he's already tried one.
9:58
[laughter]
9:59
[gasps] All right, you guys. Merry
10:02
Christmas, happy holidays, happy new
10:05
year coming up. Give me a thumbs up on
10:08
this one. Stay tuned. We still have more
10:10
Christmas coming. And then we have New
10:13
Year's stuff for that. And then we have
10:15
the new year.
10:17
All right. We'll see y'all on the next
10:19
episode. Bye.
