Hello everyone. Welcome back. Today I am
0:03
going to show you how to make a creamy
0:05
potluck potatoes. Now I had first hand
0:09
at giving these a try when my
0:11
sister-in-law Donna brought these over
0:14
for our barbecue that we had last
0:16
weekend. She brought this dish and it
0:18
was amazing. I wouldn't let her leave
0:21
until she gave me the recipe
0:24
and some of the leftovers. I want to
0:27
bring this out and show you this recipe
0:28
because it is fabulous. And it all
0:31
happens all in one bowl and then we bake
0:34
it in the oven. So it's a really simple
0:36
dish and then you can just bring the
0:37
whole dish with you wherever you're
0:39
going. We're going to start off with one
0:41
bag of diced hash brown potatoes.
0:45
They're dices, not the shreds.
0:49
And now it's a 32 oz package that's in
0:52
the recipe and
0:54
I have a 28 oz back package here and
0:58
we're going to go with that cuz that's
0:59
what I found. We're going to put that in
1:01
a large mixing bowl and start adding
1:03
everything in.
1:04
Honestly, when I cook for y'all,
1:07
I'm going to have to like it. And since
1:08
I already know that I like this,
1:10
I know y'all are going to like it.
1:13
Now these diced hash brown potatoes are
1:16
kind of partially cooked potatoes.
1:21
So they've done like part of the work
1:23
for you, right? We got these in here.
1:26
Let's get the other ingredients.
1:29
We're going to add in 1 cup of sour
1:32
cream.
1:37
Give it a nice tanginess and creaminess
1:39
to the dish.
1:42
We're going to add in one can of cream
1:45
of chicken soup.
1:47
There we go.
1:49
And then we're going to add in 2 Tbsp of
1:52
melted butter.
1:55
And then we're going to mix this all
1:57
together.
1:59
Can't pass up something called creamy
2:01
potluck potatoes. The title had me.
2:06
And I love it because we do not have to
2:08
drag out potatoes, peel them, wash them,
2:10
and dice them up.
2:12
That's how fast this part right here
2:14
came together. All right, let's get the
2:16
other ingredients. Now, I am not going
2:18
to change this recipe up too much other
2:21
than the seasonings. When they say mix
2:24
these up first, I'm going to mix these
2:26
up first and then we'll add the rest.
2:28
There's got to be a reason for it. So,
2:30
I'm going to grate 8 oz of sharp cheddar
2:33
cheese.
2:34
And then we're going to put half of it
2:36
in to the mixture and then we'll save
2:38
the other half for the ending.
2:40
Just watch your fingers.
2:47
Y'all, you can't beat
2:49
fresh grated cheese. So, we're going to
2:51
put half of this into the potatoes. It
2:54
give a nice contrast to the dish.
2:58
We're going to add in a quarter cup of
3:00
milk.
3:04
Green onions, lots of them.
3:08
When I say lots of them, I got five of
3:09
them here. We're going to take off the
3:11
ends. I've already cleaned them off.
3:14
And then we're going to slice all the
3:15
way down to into the greens. I love that
3:18
these are green onions and not like a
3:21
white or a yellow onion.
3:24
Just gives a nice
3:26
tanginess to it. You want lots of them.
3:31
Again, we're going to be dividing this
3:33
amongst the mixture
3:35
and the topping.
3:37
So, all the way down.
3:39
Now, I'm going to put half of them in.
3:45
It's going to give it a nice little perk
3:47
of color in there.
3:49
That's good. Oh, you guys, these onions
3:53
are going to mix all up in there.
3:56
We're going to season it up now.
3:59
Now, in the recipe, it calls for salt,
4:01
pepper, and garlic powder, but I'm going
4:03
to be adding a few extra ingredients in
4:05
there for flavor. So, we're going to
4:07
start with a little bit of salt.
4:12
We can adjust that flavor here in a
4:14
little bit.
4:15
Black pepper. Now, the salt was about a
4:18
quarter of a teaspoon. The black pepper,
4:19
about a quarter of a teaspoon, also. I'm
4:21
going to go in with some smoked paprika,
4:24
little smokiness to it. There we go.
4:28
Some garlic powder. Basing it about a
4:31
quarter to half a teaspoon, whatever you
4:34
like.
4:35
Some onion powder.
4:37
>> [applause]
4:40
>> Take your spoon and mix this all
4:42
together.
4:49
Ooh.
4:51
Creamy. And those potatoes are going to
4:53
be nice and tender, have picked up all
4:56
those flavors.
4:58
We got the cheesiness going on in there,
5:00
the creaminess from the sour cream. More
5:03
flavor from that cream of chicken soup.
5:08
I think we got it all, huh?
5:12
And then we got those green onions in
5:13
there. It's going to kick up the flavor,
5:15
right?
5:17
All right, I think I got everything
5:18
combined really well.
5:21
Let's get our baking dish.
5:23
We're going to be using an 8 by 10
5:25
baking dish, or if you have a 2 qt
5:28
baking dish, you can use that, also. I'm
5:30
going to spray this with some nonstick
5:32
cooking spray.
5:35
Now, the recipe doesn't call for that,
5:37
but
5:39
I don't want the potatoes sticking in
5:40
there, so I'm going to go ahead and
5:41
spray that.
5:43
And then we're going to add the mixture
5:45
I'm
5:47
Ooh, look at those colors in there.
5:55
Yeah, it'll be a perfect fit.
6:00
Oh, [snorts] smells delicious.
6:05
Nice and even.
6:14
Okay, I've got my oven preheated at
6:15
350°.
6:18
You're going to
6:20
cover the baking dish with some foil
6:27
tightly.
6:32
Get a tight seal around it cuz we got
6:35
par-cooked potatoes in there.
6:38
We need them to cook.
6:40
We're going to put this in the oven for
6:41
1 hour and 15 minutes.
6:45
We're going to pull it out. We're going
6:47
to take the foil off. We're going to
6:48
cover it with the remaining cheese and
6:50
the green onions. Pop it back in the
6:52
oven for about another 5 or 10 minutes
6:54
until the cheese is nice and melted.
6:57
We're going to give this a try. All
6:58
right, I'll be back.
7:00
Let's dive in.
7:05
Oh, yeah.
7:09
There we go.
7:11
Creamy potluck potatoes.
7:15
As I say, grab a fork. Let's give it a
7:17
try.
7:19
They look nice and creamy, cheesy,
7:22
flavorful. I love the green onions all
7:24
throughout and on top. Here's my bite.
7:32
Mhm.
7:37
Those are so creamy. The potatoes
7:41
they hold their shape, but they're so
7:44
tender on the inside. I love all those
7:46
flavors.
7:51
Mhm.
7:55
Thumbs up for this one, you guys. I want
7:57
to thank Donna, my sister-in-law, for
7:59
this recipe. Make sure you hype the
8:01
video, share the video with friends and
8:04
family that you know would love this
8:06
recipe. They'll probably just want you
8:08
to make it anyway, right?
8:09
>> [laughter]
8:10
>> I'm the one Why don't you just go ahead
8:11
and make it for them?
8:12
All right, you guys. I'll see y'all in
8:13
the next episode. Bye.
