Oh my gosh, do I have a recipe for you
0:02
guys today. This is crockot stick of
0:06
butter cube steak and rice. If you don't
0:10
know what to do with cube steak and you
0:11
have those in your freezer or
0:13
refrigerator, this is the recipe for you
0:16
guys. I was given this recipe from my
0:18
friend Tanya who had found this recipe
0:22
from someone named Melissa Home Plates.
0:26
Now I'm using my large crockot. This is
0:28
a six quart.
0:31
And we're going to start by adding in
0:33
three cans of soup. These are 10 and 1/2
0:36
oz each can. We got two beef consumes.
0:40
And then we've got one French onion. So
0:43
we'll start by adding that to the bottom
0:44
of the crock pot. First thing we're
0:46
going to do is spray the inside of the
0:47
crock pot.
0:50
We will have rice cooking in it and we
0:52
don't want it to stick.
0:55
One can French onion soup. When I make
0:59
my original stick of butter dirty rice,
1:03
yeah, it's got French onion in it. I'm
1:05
always for trying to find recipes for
1:07
cube steaks, and I have a ton of them
1:09
out there. If you go to
1:10
cathersplates.com,
1:11
you'll see a lot of the recipes out
1:13
there for cube steaks.
1:16
Now, the recipe is going to call for two
1:18
cups of long white grain rice, uncooked.
1:22
it will cook in the crock pot with all
1:25
of the mixture there. So, we're going to
1:27
measure out the two cups. I'm just going
1:29
to kind of stir this in.
1:33
The next thing we're going to add is a
1:35
full yellow onion.
1:39
We're going to chop it.
1:42
So, I'm just taking off both ends,
1:43
peeling off that outer layer.
1:47
We'll get all this off the board.
1:52
Then we'll cut it in half.
1:55
Then I'm going to run my knife through
1:57
big slices
1:59
just like this.
2:02
And then I'll turn it a little bit and
2:04
then run my knife through that. We have
2:05
nice chops like that.
2:10
Just run my knife through it a little
2:12
bit.
2:14
Now we're going to add this to the crock
2:16
pot.
2:30
Now, the recipe also calls for chopped
2:33
mushrooms, but I don't do mushrooms, and
2:36
this is where I'm going to deviate from
2:38
the recipe. I'm going to be using
2:40
zucchini. And I have two of them here
2:42
because I always feel like I can
2:44
substitute zucchini for the mushrooms.
2:47
Almost has the same texture and it'll
2:50
absorb the flavors.
2:54
So, I'm just going to take off both
2:55
ends. I did scrub a dubdub these. Cut
2:59
them in half lengthwise. Whoop. It's
3:01
getting away.
3:04
And like that. If you're putting
3:05
mushrooms in, you could do the same
3:07
thing. Just make sure that they are
3:09
bite-sized pieces.
3:18
Take all these off. So, we're going to
3:21
add that into the crock pot.
3:27
Y'all a fan of mushrooms
3:30
or fan of the zucchini?
3:36
Take a stick of butter right out of the
3:38
refrigerator.
3:39
We're going to cut this into pads and
3:42
we're going to place it on top of the
3:44
zucchini and the onion and everything
3:45
that's in the crock pot. We had a storm
3:47
last night come through and it lasted
3:50
forever and I didn't get any sleep. So,
3:53
I'm trying to create this dish and as
3:56
tired as I am, I hope I get everything
3:58
in there.
4:01
Y'all can see all that flavor in there.
4:02
All right, let's go. We got more. We're
4:05
going to take 4 oz of Parmesan cheese
4:08
and we're going to shred it. Or if you
4:10
get the stuff from the container, you
4:13
can use that also. You just need 4
4:15
ounces of it. Nothing like grated fresh
4:19
cheese, you guys.
4:23
Let's add it in.
4:27
Woo! It's going to add a delicious
4:29
flavor. Shake it in there. One
4:32
tablespoon parsley.
4:35
I'm going to crack in some cracked black
4:37
pepper.
4:39
Lots of it. I know Tanya would say that.
4:42
Lots of cracked black pepper.
4:45
Because we have all that rice in there,
4:48
we're going to add in some additional
4:49
water. And she said one and 1/2 cups.
4:56
All right. Let's check out the cube
4:58
steaks. All right. In a deep skillet,
5:00
I'm going to heat up 1 tbsp of some
5:02
cooking oil. I've just got some olive
5:04
oil here. Then we'll add in 1 tbsp of
5:08
butter cuz we're not done with that
5:10
butter yet. Now, you want to make sure
5:12
that that comes to a sizzle.
5:15
So, these cube steaks came from my Aldi
5:18
store, and these are black Angus cube
5:20
steaks, about 1 and 12 lbs, and the
5:23
package gave me four of them. So, we're
5:25
going to season that with some cracked
5:28
black pepper. We'll go ahead and just do
5:29
that. We're doing it on the top side
5:31
here,
5:33
salt.
5:37
So, we got some garlic powder.
5:41
Give it a nice coating. And some onion
5:44
powder. That's good enough for the
5:45
seasonings cuz we got a lot of flavor in
5:48
the crock pot already.
5:50
Oh, I like that sound of the sizzle. Get
5:52
it all over your pan.
5:54
Now, we're going to put the cube steaks
5:55
in seasoning side down. We're going to
5:58
let them sit in there for about two to
5:59
three minutes. And if they get nice and
6:00
golden brown on one side. If you're a
6:03
true dumping go person, you can take
6:05
these, season them up, and just put them
6:06
right into the crock pot if you don't
6:09
want to brown them up. While that side
6:11
is cooking, we're going to go ahead and
6:12
season the top side.
6:15
Golden brown,
6:17
nice crisp edges.
6:21
about two to three more minutes. Now,
6:23
before the steaks are done and we add
6:25
them in, we're just going to take our
6:28
hook here or any utensil and just kind
6:30
of stir everything together in there.
6:34
We've brown them on all sides. What
6:35
we're going to do is remove them from
6:36
the pan. We're going to place them into
6:38
the crock pot.
6:44
Introduce your family to the stick of
6:46
butter cubed eggs.
6:50
Now, if you're doing six cube steaks,
6:53
you can put them on top of them. That's
6:54
totally fine. Now, what I'm going to do
6:56
is just kind of submerge them in. Yeah.
6:59
Get all that good stuff on top of them.
7:02
We're going to place the lid on.
7:05
Now, you can cook this on high for about
7:07
4 hours, or you can cook it on low
7:10
between 6 to 8 hours,
7:13
which I'm going to do the high because
7:15
I've kind of started this kind of late.
7:17
I'm going to come back and I'm going to
7:19
show you the finished product and show
7:20
you that you can cook rice in the crock
7:23
pot and have it be nice and smooth, nice
7:28
and tender. Now, once this is done, I
7:32
have another tip for you. When the rice
7:34
is tender and absorbed all the liquids
7:36
and everything is good to go and your
7:38
steaks are nice and tender, I would pull
7:40
everything out of here, put it on a
7:42
serving platter. That way the heat from
7:45
your crockot sleeve right here doesn't
7:48
continue to cook that rice and make it
7:51
gummy. All right, we want it cooked
7:53
through and nice and beautiful. All
7:55
right, you guys. I'll be back. Here it
7:58
is, you guys. Look at that.
8:01
My crockot, one stick of butter, cube
8:05
steak, and rice. The perfect dinner.
8:09
Serve this one up. Look at those steaks.
8:13
So, I'm going to take some of that, the
8:14
zucchini, some of that rice, that
8:16
butterflavored rice.
8:19
There's my bite, you guys. Do you like
8:21
that bite?
8:24
Make sure you blow on it.
8:27
Mhm. You know what it needs? What I was
8:30
supposed to do, you should top it with a
8:32
little parmesan. I have some freshly
8:34
grated right here. Some parsley to
8:37
decorate it up. There we go. Y'all, that
8:40
rice is delicious.
8:42
I think it helps with that one stick of
8:44
butter, don't y'all? Here's your recipe
8:46
right here, you guys. Go check it out on
8:48
my recipe blog, catherine'splates.com.
8:50
I'll see y'all in the next episode. Bye.
8:56
Put that zucchini in there. That is
8:58
amazing.
