hello everyone welcome back to
0:01
Catherine's Plates where it's always
0:03
simply delicious i am making dessert
0:07
this is a banana split dump cake it's
0:10
really easy which is what I need for a
0:13
potluck that I'm going to be taking this
0:15
to later on this afternoon and luckily
0:18
I'm able to steal a slice to show y'all
0:22
what it looks like at the end okay you
0:24
guys i have a trick up my sleeve also on
0:27
how to prevent your cake mix from being
0:31
powdery on top let's come on up i'm
0:34
going to show you the simple ingredients
0:36
right we have right here and then we'll
0:38
put this one together we've got bananas
0:41
you need that in a banana split right
0:44
we've got some crushed pecans crushed
0:48
pineapple a heavy whipping cream we've
0:51
got chocolate syrup we got a stick of
0:54
butter
0:56
yeah we have our side we have a boxed
1:01
cake mix now you can use the yellow or
1:04
you can use white cake mix for this
1:06
recipe
1:07
we've got some fresh strawberries that
1:09
I've already got cleaned off and ready
1:12
to go look how big those are
1:15
big we got some lemon juice that's just
1:18
to keep our bananas from going brown
1:22
first thing you want to do is prepare
1:24
your baking dish you can use some
1:26
non-stick cooking spray or you can coat
1:28
it with some butter this will just keep
1:31
the cake part of the recipe from
1:33
sticking sometimes I'm not impressed
1:35
with the flour stuff hard to come out
1:38
and gets clogged up let's set this aside
1:41
we're going to bring over a medium bowl
1:43
a small cutting board and a knife we're
1:46
going to take some bananas we're going
1:48
to peel them you start from the bottom
1:51
work your way to the front it takes all
1:53
the peel with it so you're not left with
1:56
all the stringy part of the banana there
1:59
all right I'm going to cut off the ends
2:03
get rid of that so I'm going to cut
2:05
these
2:07
into nice circles
2:10
and then we're going to put these into a
2:12
medium bowl and get those coated with
2:14
some lemon juice
2:18
now what the lemon juice will do is keep
2:20
the bananas from going too brown
2:25
but as fast as this will get eaten today
2:27
during our potluck not too worried about
2:30
it
2:31
i don't have Thomas right now these
2:34
bananas would have been gone if he was
2:36
here i could have been snitching them
2:38
right
2:40
all right we're going to get these in
2:42
[Music]
2:46
we'll get the other two chopped up
2:50
i'll just be Thomas today since he's not
2:52
here
2:54
quality control that's what he calls it
2:56
right
2:58
all right I'm going to do two more
2:59
bananas then we're going to save the
3:00
other two for the end of the recipe
3:04
this is the only thing that keeps Bailey
3:07
who is my 12-year-old beagle she loves
3:10
to come into the kitchen and help but
3:12
she doesn't like bananas she doesn't
3:14
like the smell of them so she'll just
3:17
stay in there taking her little nap
3:21
okay let's put this into our bowl
3:26
got to watch those bananas they'll roll
3:27
away from you
3:30
all right grab you a spoon some lemon
3:32
juice you can squeeze some in there or
3:34
just use the bottle like what I have
3:36
right here
3:38
it's very handy to have in the
3:40
refrigerator
3:42
i'm just going to squeeze some across
3:47
and we'll stir them all in
3:49
easy enough let's bring our baking dish
3:52
back over and we're going to place our
3:55
bananas in nice little layer
4:00
we'll just even them out you should get
4:03
a nice layer down here lay them flat
4:06
all right we'll set that to the side
4:10
can of crushed pineapple this is 20 oz
4:16
now I have a mesh wired strainer here
4:21
we're going to drain out the juice from
4:23
our pineapple
4:25
you want to keep it because we're going
4:27
to use it for a part of the recipe so
4:29
don't get rid of it i mean I'm really
4:31
famous for drinking the juice out of the
4:33
pineapple but we need to save it
4:38
that came out really fast we're just
4:41
going to take a spoon and just press get
4:44
as much juice as we can out smells so
4:47
delicious summery this is a really great
4:51
summer dessert that you could take to
4:55
barbecues to potlucks like what we're
4:57
doing take it anywhere that looks real
5:00
good all right we're going to move this
5:03
aside we're going to bring our bananas
5:05
over and we're just going to flake the
5:08
pineapple
5:10
all over the bananas
5:13
and we'll just go back and evenly
5:15
disperse it everywhere
5:19
that's looking good
5:21
all right make sure you save your juice
5:24
i've already washed off my strawberries
5:26
so I'm just going to cut off the tops
5:29
we're going to slice them
5:32
and we're going to put them all over the
5:35
pineapple a nice
5:38
fresh fruity dessert
5:42
y'all stick with me i'm going to show
5:43
you how to make that cake part this is a
5:46
dump cake so everything just goes right
5:48
on in
5:52
our baking dish here i'm super excited
5:57
yeah I said I could do this dessert if
6:01
I can steal a piece and give it a try
6:04
for y'all
6:05
then that way I can get a picture of it
6:07
too before it's demolished
6:10
we're going to cover the whole layer
6:12
here right on top of the pineapple with
6:14
the strawberries look at these oh my
6:17
gosh look how big that is
6:20
you know we have to quality control
6:22
everything right i mean you have to
6:28
mhm
6:31
oh it's so juicy delicious probably
6:34
going to need about a pound of
6:36
strawberries
6:38
or a pint maybe a pint
6:43
all right let's work on the cake all
6:45
right I've just rinsed out my bowl that
6:47
I used for the bananas we'll just dry
6:50
that out really good
6:53
and then we're going to dump in a box of
6:55
yellow cake mix now like I said at the
6:58
beginning you can use a white cake mix
7:00
if you want to do that doesn't really
7:02
matter the size of your box okay this
7:05
one is a 15.25 ounce size but if it's if
7:08
you have a bigger box or a smaller box
7:11
it doesn't really matter now when you
7:13
are making a dump cake generally you
7:18
pour your cake mix on top add some
7:21
butter pads to cover the whole thing and
7:23
that is your dump cake right well
7:26
it's the powder part of it for me that I
7:29
don't like that just sits there and
7:31
burns or doesn't cook so let me get my
7:36
scissors so we're going to place our
7:37
cake mix into the bowl
7:40
[Applause]
7:42
we are going to add in
7:45
our pineapple juice now let me get my
7:47
stick of butter and we're going to melt
7:49
it so I'm going to put it in a microwave
7:51
safe bowl
7:53
to get that melting one stick or half a
7:56
cup
7:57
[Applause]
7:59
i like to put these in my freezer in a
8:01
Ziploc bag cuz you can use them to
8:03
grease your baking dishes with or other
8:05
things all right this will take about 30
8:08
seconds i have my spatula here let's see
8:11
what it looks like yep that's perfect
8:14
so it's about 30 seconds
8:18
make sure it's nice and melty in there
8:21
so we'll add that
8:26
and then we'll add one cup of pineapple
8:31
juice let's see how much we added here
8:35
perfect
8:37
we'll add that
8:40
let's mix this together
8:44
all right let's bring it over
8:49
and we're going to pour it on top
8:53
we're going to spread it out nice and
8:55
even
8:57
so it cooks nice and even
9:06
i'm not too tired to care i got a lot of
9:08
things going on right now
9:11
so we're going to take care of the edges
9:13
here i've got my oven preheated at 350°
9:18
got my husband looking for some chairs
9:20
in the garage we're going to bake this
9:22
for 40 to 45 minutes until it is nice
9:24
and golden brown and the cake is kind of
9:27
pulled away from the edges a little bit
9:29
we want to cool down the cake completely
9:31
and then I'm going to show you how we're
9:32
going to build this up with some
9:34
toppings that'll make it a banana split
9:37
y'all I'll be back
9:40
all right our cake has cooled down
9:44
we're going to make a whipped topping
9:45
really quick i've got 16 oz or one pint
9:48
of heavy whipping cream just put it into
9:51
your medium bowl
9:55
all right I got 10 minutes to get out of
9:57
here
9:59
they're waiting on this cake
10:04
all right I'm going to use the whisk
10:05
attachment on my electric hand mixer
10:11
we're going to beat this until we get
10:12
soft peaks
10:16
about halfway before we get to our soft
10:19
peaks we're going to add one tablespoon
10:21
of powdered sugar that's just to flavor
10:24
it up now you can skip this whole step
10:27
and do 8 oz of a cool whip that's thawed
10:33
mine's still in the freezer
10:36
that's so we're still doing this step
10:37
right here
10:43
now if you want to add some more flavor
10:44
to it you can put a teaspoon of vanilla
10:47
extract
10:50
oh yeah look at that
10:54
that's what we're looking for soft peaks
10:58
look at that yeah let's ice the cake
11:02
all right we're going to put it all over
11:03
the cake
11:06
right
11:12
we're just going to kind of smooth it
11:14
out evenly
11:16
just kind of give it some texture on the
11:18
top
11:20
got a lot of stuff going on it so it
11:22
don't have to be nice and smooth
11:28
can y'all see the bananas more bananas
11:31
now I've already sliced up the two that
11:33
we talked about earlier the last two so
11:35
we had a total of six bananas and we're
11:37
going to place them on top i did squeeze
11:40
some lemon juice in and get that all
11:41
mixed in we're just going to dollop them
11:44
around
11:47
that way everything gets banana
11:51
we're taking the strawberries fresh ones
11:54
y'all he's back yay somebody's got a
11:56
driver he found the chairs in the garage
11:59
so he found them all right we're going
12:02
to just place these around
12:06
I don't want to overcover because we
12:07
want to be able to see things
12:10
it's going to have nice texture on top
12:13
all right now you can either use crushed
12:15
pecans or crushed walnuts
12:19
we're going to sprinkle those on top
12:22
chocolate syrup
12:25
drizzle it on
12:27
you can save this for when you get
12:29
somewhere if you want to do that i'm
12:31
going to do it right now so y'all can
12:32
see just how beautiful that is everybody
12:35
will be okay with it there you go you
12:37
guys banana split dump cake look at
12:42
those layers let's dive in before we
12:45
have to leave
12:48
look at that look at that sets up like a
12:52
cake nice like that banana
12:55
the strawberry the chocolate syrup i'm
12:57
taking a bite right here
13:03
[Music]
13:07
that's delicious it's scrumptious i love
13:11
it if you pop that in the refrigerator
13:13
and get it nice and cold it'll taste
13:14
like a banana split that cool whip kind
13:18
of gives it that ice cream flavor right
13:21
and that chocolate syrup on top perfect
13:25
all right you guys i know Thomas is
13:27
going to eat that on the way
13:30
i have to get my lid
13:34
say goodbye to it
13:36
all right we'll see y'all on the next
13:39
episode bye you guys back
