

Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Casserole
A perfect combination of tater tot casserole and a sloppy joe with a heartier flavor. Make this for an easy weeknight meal.
Equipment
- cutting board & sharp knife
- medium deep oven-proof skillet or baking dish (see recipe)
- wooden spoon
- measuring spoons & cups
- cheese grater
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 1 TBS minced garlic
- 1 (15oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 TBS barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)
- 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
- 1 TBS yellow mustard
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 (30oz) bag frozen tater tots or tater crowns
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 green onions, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Brown and break up ground beef in medium oven-proof skillet over medium high heat. Drain excess grease.
NOTE: you can substitute using a medium baking dish for the oven-proof skillet. Once mixture is simmered through, pour into a medium baking dish before the tater tots go on.
- Add onion and cook until softened 3-4 minutes. Stir in garlic for 1 additional minute.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Simmer for 5 minutes then turn off burner.Taste for seasoning adjustments, if needed.
NOTE: you can substitute using a medium baking dish for the oven-proof skillet. Once mixture is simmered through, pour into a medium baking dish before the tater tots go on.
- Top sloppy joe mixture with the tater tots in a circular pattern to completely cover top.
- Bake uncovered in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until tater tots or crispy on top. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and green onions and cook an additional 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
