Equipment

  • cutting board & sharp knife
  • measuring cups & spoons
  • 6 quart crockpot/slow cooker
  • large deep pot or skillet
  • tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 - 3 lbs bone-in beef short ribs
  • salt & black pepper (for seasoning ribs)
  • 2 TBS olive or avocado oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 TBS soy sauce
  • 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  • Season beef short ribs on all sides with salt & pepper.
  • In a large pot or skillet heat 2 TBS cooking oil over medium high heat until it shimmers.
  • Place seasoned beef short ribs into hot oil and sear for 3-4 minutes until golden on bottom. Turn over ribs and cook another 3-4 minutes until golden. Sear on all the sides for 2-3 minutes.
  • Spray 6 quart crockpot with non-stick cooking spray. Chop up onions & mince garlic and place both in bottom of prepared crockpot.
  • Place seared ribs on top of the onions & garlic.
  • In same skillet remove excess grease. Do not have burner on. We are just mixing ingredients in skillet and incorporating the flavors from bottom of skillet into our sauce.
  • To the skillet add in soy sauce, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and paprika. Taste for flavor adjustments for the seasonings.
  • Pour sauce over the ribs in the crockpot.
  • Place lid on crockpot and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours until ribs are fork tender and fall off the bone. Top with fresh parsley for a garnish.
  • We love to serve up with our favorite mashed potatoes and pour the delicious sauce from crockpot over the ribs & potatoes.
NOTE: to thicken sauce add a little slurry of corn starch and water.
    ENJOY.
