Patty Melt Sandwich Diner Style

Classic toasted sandwich with hamburger patty, secret sauce, cheese, and caramelized onion. So Good.

Ingredients

  • 2 sm-med yellow onions, cut into rings
  • 1 TBS avocado oil
  • 6 TBS butter (DIVIDED)
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 TBS favorite hamburger seasonings (I use kinder's Buttery Steakhouse blend, garlic powder, salt & pepper.)
  • 4 pcs dark rye bread (you can use any type of bread for this recipe)
  • 8 slices swiss cheese
  • 2 TBS Thousand Island dressing

Instructions

  • Heat 1 TBS butter & 1 TBS oil In a medium skillet over medium high heat until it sizzles. Add in onion and season with salt & pepper. Stir. Place lid on and cook for 2 minutes before stirring again. Do this step several times until onions are softened and have a brown color. Remove from heat.
  • In a medium bowl mix together ground beef and hamburger seasoning. Divide mixture equally into 2 parts. Form a round balls and flatten out into an large thin oval shapes. Place both oval patties onto a plate.
  • Heat 1 TBS butter in a large skillet until it sizzles. Place hamburger patties into hot skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes until golden brown on the bottom and partially cooked through. Turn patties over and cook an additional 4-6 minutes until patties are cooked through. Remove from skillet to a plate.
  • Wipe out any grease from skillet and place back on medium heat.
  • Butter 1 side of 2 pieces of bread. Place the 2 pieces of bread buttered side down into hot skillet. Place 2 pieces of cheese on the bread in skillet. Place cooked burgers on top of cheese. Top each burger with the caramelized onion equally. Place 2 more slices of cheese on top of each of the onion covered burgers.
  • Spread 1 TBS of Thousand Island dressing on each of the other 2 pieces of bread and place dressing side own on top of the cheese.
  • With remaining butter, spread on top of the bread in skillet.
  • Once bread gets toasty on bottom and cheese starts to melts, flip over sandwiches carefully. Toast the bottom of sandwich until golden and cheese has melted all the way through.
  • Remove from skillet and enjoy with your favorite sandwich side.
