Beef Stew in a Crockpot

This beef stew recipe has been in my family for as long as I can remember.  I cook this for my family and they just devour it.  There is such a richness to it.  I have never changed this recipe other than putting it in a crockpot.

Beef Stew in a Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 1 lb stew meat cubed
  • 1/4 cup Flour for searing meat
  • 1 TBS Salt & Pepper for searing meat
  • 1 TBS olive oil for searing meat
  • 4-6 medium Red Potatoes diced
  • 2 stalks Celery diced
  • 4 carrots diced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 Yellow Onion diced
  • 1 TBS minced garlic
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 1 can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 can sweet peas drained

Instructions

  • Optional Step: Searing stew meat for a richer flavor and color.
  • Add flour, salt & pepper to Ziploc bag. Toss stew meat into bag and mix well.
  • Add olive oil to large skillet and heat to a medium high. Add flour covered stew meat and sear on both sides.
  • Place in bottom of crockpot.
  • Add potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion to crockpot.
  • Add garlic, salt & pepper.
  • Add peas, beef broth, tomato sauce, and bay leaf. Mix well.
  • Cover and cook on low for 10-12 hours or on high for 6-7 hours.
  • Taste, add salt & pepper if needed.
  • Remove bay leaf.
  • Serve & Enjoy.
