Equipment

  • large serrated knife
  • large sheet pan
  • cutting board
  • small mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 4-6 kaiser rolls found in the bakery section of grocery store
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey jack or other favorites)
  • dried parsley, to garnish

Instructions

  • On a cutting board using a serrated knife, cut 4 slats through top of rolls 3/4 of the way through without cutting through the bottom. Then cut 3 slats through the 4 slats to create square shapes on the top of roll.
Place rolls onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • In a small mixing bowl mix together melted butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  • Brush melted butter mixture over the tops of the rolls making sure to dribble some through the cuts on the rolls.
NOTE: if you feel you need more butter you can double the butter mixture recipe.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheeses on top of the butter coated rolls. Pull apart the squares to allow some of the shredded cheese to fall into the cut pieces.
  • Sprinkle with dried parsley.
  • Bake in 400 degree preheated oven for 4-5 minutes until cheese has melted all throughout the rolls and the rolls are heated through.
