Christmas Tree Creamy Chicken Appetizer

Author Catherine's Plates

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken (I used rotisserie) or you can use baked, broiled or boiled
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza crust dough
  • 3 TBS butter, melted
  • 1 TBS dried parsley
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced small

Instructions

  • In a large bowl mix together cooked chicken, cream cheese, green onions, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. (I used an electric hand mixer to get a good mix on this.)
  • Pull out pizza crust dough from refrigerator and unroll onto parchment paper lined 10x15 baking sheet. Use a rolling pin to thin out the dough if needed keeping the rectangle shape.
  • Cut 2 sides of the rectangle off. (cut from the center of short side and cut to the other corner to the bottom edge. Do this for both sides. Remove sides to another sheet of parchment paper to be used for the top. Now you should have a long triangle in the shape of a christmas tree.
  • At the bottom of the triangle cut out a small square for the trunk of the tree and set a side.
  • Place the chicken mixture onto christmas tree shape dough and spread evenly covering all of the dough.
  • Take one of the removed sides that we saved earlier and place over the chicken mixture. Place the other removed side of dough over the other side of the mixture. The mixture should now be covered with the dough to look like a triangle (christmas tree).
  • Using a sharp knife, on one side of the tree, cut slits from the top of the tree down to the bottom. Make sure you do not pass the ceneter of the tree. Take each slit and twist and set back down. Do this all the way down the tree. Do the same on the other side of the tree.
  • Push the red bell pepper dices all through the twists to make it look like lights on a tree.
  • Place the trunk (that we cut out earlier) onto the bottom of the tree.
  • Mix melted butter and parsley together and brush all over the dough, this will make it nice and golden brown.
  • Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 20-22 minutes until golden brown and cooked on the bottom.
  • Pull out of oven and allow to rest on pan for 5 minutes. Serve on parchment paper or move carefully to a cutting board.
  • To serve, everyone can pull the twists from the tree or use a utensil to help cut the tree into serving pieces. Either way enjoy.
