Cinnamon Roll Scones
An easy scone recipe that tastes just like a warm delicious cinnamon roll.
Equipment
- large mixing bowl
- small mixing bowl
- large sheet pan
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, chilled and cut into dices
- 1 egg separated
- 3 TBS honey
- 1/3 cup buttermilk or sour cream
- to make 1/3 cup buttermilk; add 1/2 tsp lemon juice to a measuring cup and add milk to the 1/3 cup line. Whisk together. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Topping
- 1-2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 TBS white granulated sugar
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 – 1 TBS milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Place the diced chilled butter into flour. Cut the butter into flour using 2 forks, a pastry cutter or you can use your hands. Flour should be crumbly with bits of flour throughout.
- In a small bowl mix together buttermilk, egg yolk, and honey.
- Pour buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture and using a wooden spoon combine until all flour is incorporated. Using your hands form a ball of dough and place onto a floured work surface.
- Roll dough out to 1/2 " thick and around 8 inches round. Using a long knife cut the round dough into 8 triangles. Place the scone pieces onto a parchment lined baking sheet leaving 1/8 " in between each triangle.
- Whisk egg white in a small bowl until frothy. Using a pastry brush coast the triangles with the egg wash.
- Mix together cinnamon and white granulate sugar and sprinkle on top of the egg washed scone triangles.
- Place baking sheet into preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and set on top. Pull out of oven and remove from pan on to a serving plate.
- In a small bowl mix together glaze ingredients (powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla and milk until you reach a drizzly glaze. (To thin out glaze add more milk, to thicken glaze add more powdered sugar.)
- Drizzle glaze all over the baked scones. Enjoy.
