French Onion Dip Appetizer

Equipment

  • large deep skillet
  • measuring spoons & cups
  • cutting board & sharp knife
  • small bowl
  • medium mixing bowl
  • electric hand mixer with beaters
  • spatula
  • serving bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 TBS butter
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil (avocado, olive, canola or vegetable oil)
  • 3 cups yellow onions, sliced thin
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp black pepper or ceyenne pepper
  • 4 oz block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • potato chips or vegetable sticks

Instructions

  • Melt butter together with cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it starts to sizzle.
  • Place sliced onions into skillet. Season with salt & black pepper. Stir to combine and saute for 10 minutes.
  • Cook an additional 5-10 minutes until caramelized and golden brown. Remove onions to a separate small bowl and allow to cool slightly.
  • In a separate medium bowl cream together cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until well blended using an electric hand mixer.
  • Fold cooled onions into cream cheese mixture until well combined using a spatula.
  • Place French Onion Dip into a serving bowl and serve along side ruffled potato chips, pita chips, vegetable sticks, or your favorite.
  • Store in an airtight container in refrigerator for up to 3 days.
