Mongolian Ground Beef Cabbage Skillet

Equipment

  • cutting board & sharp knife
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium head cabbage, cut into strips
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 TBS low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 TBS sesame oil
  • 2 TBS rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp (each) salt & black pepper ( to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp (each) garlic powder & onion powder
  • 2 green onions, sliced (garnish)
  • sesame seeds (garnish)

Instructions

  • In large deep skillet break up and brown ground beef over medium high heat until no longer pink and cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  • Add in onion and cook until onions are softened 3-4 minutes.
  • Add in minced garlic. Stir for 1 minute to release aromas.
  • Stir in shredded cabbage. Sautee until slightly wilted about 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ground ginger, red pepper flakes (opt), garlic powder, onion powder, and salt & pepper (to taste).
  • Stir sauce into cabbage mixture and cook an additional 2-3 minutes until cabbage is tender. Taste for additional salt & pepper, if needed.
  • Garnish with green onions and/or sesame seeds before serving, if desired.
