Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Today we
0:02
are going to make one of my favorite
0:04
dishes that I love on Thanksgiving and
0:07
it's green bean casserole. And not only
0:10
are we going to make one, but we're
0:11
going to make two different versions.
0:13
And they're very easy.
0:16
I found this little gem right here. It
0:20
is a green bean casserole seasoning mix
0:22
by McCormick. It's a limited edition.
0:26
So, I'm going to try this versus the
0:29
original recipe from the French's crispy
0:33
fried onions. On the back of their
0:34
package, they have that recipe. Easy
0:36
recipes. Five ingredients. Five
0:39
ingredients. It just fits in a twoourt
0:42
casserole dish each one. Now, you can
0:46
double up on this recipe. If you're
0:47
coming over to my house and you're
0:49
making green bean casserole, you better
0:51
double up because you know I love green
0:53
bean casserole. Love it leftovers, too,
0:56
with the turkey. All right, we're going
0:58
to get started with the original one.
1:01
Put that one together. Then we're going
1:03
to put together the McCormick green bean
1:05
casserole seasoning mix recipe and we'll
1:09
bake them and I'm going to taste and see
1:11
which one I like. Now I'm in a two cord
1:14
casserole dish and we're going to place
1:16
in one can of cream of a celery soup.
1:20
Now it did say cream of mushroom soup,
1:22
but I'm not a fan.
1:26
Now to that we're going to add eighth of
1:28
a teaspoon of black pepper.
1:35
We're going to add 3/4 cup of milk.
1:41
Take a fork. We're going to blend this
1:43
together very carefully.
1:47
Now, that's three of the ingredients.
1:51
Now, nothing will ever top
1:54
the green bean casserole from my
1:55
sister-in-law, Donna. She's got a
1:58
special recipe, and I always have her
2:00
bring it when they come over for
2:02
Thanksgiving.
2:04
Okay, once you get this all mixed in,
2:07
we're going to add two cans of green
2:10
beans.
2:13
Now, I've drained them. These are 14 oz
2:16
each.
2:20
You can use any style green beans that
2:22
you like. I do like the whole green
2:25
beans. Not a fan of the French style,
2:28
but if they're there, I'll eat them.
2:30
There we go.
2:33
Give those a nice coat.
2:37
Now, this is the recipe off of the
2:40
French's crispy fried onions. And that's
2:43
pretty much the original one that
2:44
everyone uses for Thanksgiving. Right
2:48
now, what we're going to do is take half
2:50
of these onions. This is a 6 oz
2:52
container.
2:54
We're going to manhandle it open.
2:58
Now, you know, you got to try one.
3:01
Yeah. Try them for your guests so they
3:02
don't have to worry about it.
3:09
Mhm. Salty. Got that onion flavor to it.
3:14
We're going to place half of this
3:15
container, which is 3 oz, into the green
3:17
beans and stir those in.
3:24
[Applause]
3:26
There we go.
3:29
Let's get those mixed up.
3:31
Get them on in there.
3:34
That's why we didn't add any salt.
3:37
That will put salt in there. Plus, the
3:39
cream of soup will do that also.
3:43
All right, we're just going to flatten
3:44
it down.
3:47
All right, we're going to set this aside
3:48
that I'm going to put together the
3:50
McCormick seasoning mix one because
3:53
these can cook together in the oven.
3:57
All right, let's make this easy version.
4:00
We're going to place the packet of green
4:03
bean casserole seasoning mix into a
4:06
twoourt casserole dish.
4:12
Smell
4:15
what's going on in there.
4:22
I'm going to show you all the
4:23
ingredients right there. You can stop it
4:26
right here and read those ingredients if
4:29
you want to know what's in there.
4:32
All right. To that, it says to add in
4:34
half a cup of hot water.
4:39
And we're going to blend that together.
4:45
Oh, it smells like the holidays in
4:46
there.
4:50
smells like it's got a little bit more
4:52
herbs and flavor
4:55
than I smelled in the other one,
4:59
which it just had a cream of celery in
5:01
there. So, look at all those. Do you see
5:03
all those herbs in there? All right. So,
5:06
once you get this blended together with
5:08
your whisk,
5:10
cuz I just want to make sure that powder
5:11
is mixed in well, we're going to add in
5:14
3/4 cup of milk.
5:18
We have a helper here with my owl.
5:26
All right, get that all blended in.
5:29
Let's see what's next. All right, we're
5:31
going to stir in two cans of green
5:34
beans. Now, I've drained them.
5:44
Get those nice and coated.
5:48
I'm hoping that's going to thicken up
5:50
somewhat.
5:52
And then it says add 23
5:55
container
5:57
of our French's fried onions.
6:08
There we go. Blend that together.
6:14
I can't really can't wait to taste this.
6:16
See how it compares.
6:20
There we go.
6:24
Now, let's look at the consistency
6:26
really quick. This is a thicker mixture
6:29
a little bit because of the soup. And
6:32
this is a little more runnier. So, we're
6:34
going to see how this one will come
6:36
together in the oven. Now, these both
6:39
will cook in the preheated oven at 350°
6:43
for 30 minutes. So, they're both the
6:45
same on that. And then we're going to
6:47
come back. Okay, I've just pulled them
6:49
out of the oven at the 30 minute mark.
6:51
Woo! Look how that thickened up. Yum.
6:55
And then we got this one right here
6:56
that's still creamy. So, we're going to
6:58
take the rest of the fried onions. I may
7:00
not put the rest on there, but we'll
7:02
just put some across the top.
7:05
We'll do the crispy ones.
7:08
We'll see how many we need for this one
7:10
here.
7:11
[Laughter]
7:15
Now, this was the seasoning packet from
7:17
McCormix,
7:18
and this was the French's crispy fried
7:22
onion recipe on the back. All right,
7:24
these are going to go back in the oven
7:26
for about five or so minutes, just to
7:28
kind of golden these a little bit more,
7:30
crisp them up, and we'll pull it out.
7:31
I'm going to give it a taste test. Let's
7:34
give a taste test. Now, this is the
7:37
green bean casserole seasoning mix. It's
7:39
a limited edition, so I'm sure you're
7:41
going to have to go and get that
7:42
quickly. I picked this up at Walmart.
7:47
So, I'm going to put a little in a bowl
7:49
here.
7:51
Oh, I'm super excited.
7:54
There we go.
7:57
So, now this one here
7:59
is the French's crispy fried onion
8:02
recipe on the back. So, we'll give that
8:05
a try.
8:07
Let's see.
8:10
Nice thickness going on. Get some of
8:13
those onions.
8:17
There we go.
8:20
I'm going to give that a try.
8:24
I'm going to taste the original first.
8:37
Yep. I love the creaminess from the
8:40
soup.
8:43
And those French onions, I'm telling you
8:45
what. Woo! Those are good in there. All
8:49
right, let me give a try this one here.
9:04
There's more seasoning flavor in that
9:06
one than this one here. That's for sure.
9:10
Yeah.
9:14
But I like the creaminess of the soup
9:16
over there.
9:21
Mhm.
9:24
Yep.
9:26
Guess which it is. Which one?
9:30
This one right here. The original.
9:34
I love the creaminess from the soup and
9:36
it adds some flavor to it. The black
9:38
pepper in there.
9:40
Now, this one's okay, but it's just
9:42
lacking that holiday feel in a green
9:45
bean casserole. But neither of these are
9:48
better than my homemade version using
9:51
the
9:53
no canned soup method. And then also
9:57
I've cooked the green bean casserole in
9:59
a crock pot. So that method is out there
10:01
on my channel, Katherine'splates.com.
10:04
And also one of my favorites that my
10:06
sister-in-law brings her green bean
10:09
casserole.
10:11
Her secret recipe, but let me tell you,
10:12
it is delicious. I might have to make it
10:15
for y'all one time. All right, you guys.
10:18
That's how I ranked them. One and two.
10:22
Well, you can see the uh ingredients
10:26
that I told you about earlier. So, check
10:28
those out and see if you you like that
10:31
one. All right, you guys. Happy
10:33
Thanksgiving. I'll see you on the next
10:35
episode. Thomas and I are going to be
10:38
doing some Christmas candy coming up, so
10:40
stay tuned for that one. It's going to
10:42
be fun. Bye. A.
