Using a small sharp knife, cookie cutters, edge of a glass, cut out shapes in the bread. Make sure to leave enough edging on the bread to toast. (Keep the cut out piece, as you will be cooking that also.)
Lightly butter the bread and the cutout pieces.
Place skillet on burner and turn on to medium heat. Allow to heat up.
Place bread and the cutouts onto skillet.
Gently crack egg and place in center of bread. Sprinkle egg only with salt and pepper to taste.
Cook for about 1-2 minutes until desired golden brown toasted look is on bottom of cutouts. Eggs at this point should be almost set.
Flip over the toasted bread with egg in it and the cutouts. Cook for another 1 minute or so.
Gently take the toasted egg and the cutouts out of skillet and place on a plate.
I like to use the cut out to scoop out the yolk. Fun and delicious. Enjoy.
