Eggs in a Hole

Author Catherine's Plates

Ingredients

  • bread slices
  • eggs
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • butter

Instructions

  • Using a small sharp knife, cookie cutters, edge of a glass, cut out shapes in the bread. Make sure to leave enough edging on the bread to toast. (Keep the cut out piece, as you will be cooking that also.)
  • Lightly butter the bread and the cutout pieces.
  • Place skillet on burner and turn on to medium heat. Allow to heat up.
  • Place bread and the cutouts onto skillet.
  • Gently crack egg and place in center of bread. Sprinkle egg only with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook for about 1-2 minutes until desired golden brown toasted look is on bottom of cutouts. Eggs at this point should be almost set.
  • Flip over the toasted bread with egg in it and the cutouts. Cook for another 1 minute or so.
  • Gently take the toasted egg and the cutouts out of skillet and place on a plate.
  • I like to use the cut out to scoop out the yolk. Fun and delicious. Enjoy.
