Angel Biscuits

I love, love, love these biscuits.  They come out so golden.  The inside of the biscuits hold together so well.  Across between a flaky biscuit and a crumble biscuit.  So simple, easy, and delicious to put together.  Perfect!

Angel Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup All Purpose Unbleached Flour I used King Arthur brand
  • 1 cup Cake Flour I used King Arthur brand
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 TBS granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup crisco vegetable shortening needs to be cold
  • 1 packet quick rise yeast or 2 1/4 tsp
  • 2 TBS warm water
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with non stick cooking spray.
  • In a small bowl combine yeast and warm water and set aside to proof. (5 minutes)
  • In a large bowl using a whisk combine, all purpose flour, cake flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  • Cut COLD shortening into flour mixture until small pea size.
  • Pour in buttermilk and proofed yeast mixture.
  • Stir gently until just combined.
  • Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface, form ball and then roll out until about 1/2 inch high.
  • Cut into 3 inch circles and place them on prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush tops lightly with milk to help with browning.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy.
