Classic Shepherd’s Pie

My family loves my classic Shepherd’s Pie. Making homemade mashed potatoes, a delicious brown gravy and using your favorite vegetables becomes the most amazing dinner.

Classic Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • 4-5 russet potatoes, diced small & cooked in salted water; drain
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 3 TBS butter
  • 2 TBS flour
  • 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 12 oz frozen vegetables

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Place diced potatoes into salted water. Cook until tender. Drain and add favorite ingredients to make mashed potatoes. (I use milk, butter, salt, pepper, and grated cheese)
  • Place 1 TBS of butter in large skillet on medium high. Add diced onion and sautee until softened. Add ground beef and brown.
  • Add 2 TBS butter & 2 TBS flour to ground beef and stir for 2 minutes.
  • Add 1 TBS worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt & pepper. Add beef broth and stir.
  • Add vegetables and mix well. Turn off heat. Mixture should be thickened.
  • Place mixture into bottom of 9x13 baking dish and smooth out. Place mashed potatoes on top and smooth out.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Enjoy.
