Equipment

  • 6 quart crockpot
  • large skillet
  • large mixing bowl

Ingredients

hamburger patties

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup panko crumbs
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 TBS dried parsley
  • 2 TBS butter (DIVIDED)
  • 2 TBS cooking oil (DIVIDED)

gravy

  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 (10.5oz) cans beef broth or consomme
  • 1 pkg lipton onion soup mix
  • 2 TBS ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 TBS corn starch
  • 8 TBS water
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl combine together hamburger patty ingredients (ground beef, eggs, panko, Worcestershire, dried parsley, salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder.)
Using a 1/2 measuring cup to measure out the patties, form into hamburger patties tightly and place on a plate. (This recipe should make 8 patties.)
  • In a large skillet over medium high heat bring 1 TBS butter & 1 TBS cooking oil to a sizzle. Place 4 formed hamburger patties into hot skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes until browned and a crust has formed. Turn patties over and sear an additional 2 minutes.
Spray 6 quart crockpot with non-stick cooking spray and place seared patties into bottom of crockpot.
Add rest of butter & oil into same skillet and sear off rest of patties & move to crockpot.
  • In same skillet, remove excess grease leaving 1 TBS of the hamburger grease. Add in chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic for one (1) additional minutes. Stir in broth, lipton onion soup mix, ketchup, and 1/4 tsp black pepper.
Turn off heat and pour gravy over hamburger patties in crockpot.
  • Place lid on crockpot and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until salisbury steaks are fork tender and cooked through.
Stack the salisbury steaks in crock and pour in corn starch slurry (whisk together corn starch and water until smooth). Stir until gravy thickens.
  • Perfect to pair with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta. Enjoy.
