everybody ready for some breakfast this
0:02
morning i'm going to get ready to make a
0:03
breakfast hash brown casserole you're
0:06
going to need some shredded hash browns
0:09
these are refrigerated you can get them
0:11
out of that section of your store or you
0:14
can use the frozen hash browns and just
0:17
thaw them out we've got seasonings we've
0:19
got salt pepper garlic powder and onion
0:24
powder six eggs you're going to need
0:28
bell pepper yellow onion we've got
0:30
evaporated milk that'll add a nice
0:33
flavor a little sweetness to it right
0:36
and then we've got some breakfast
0:38
sausage that we're going to cook up now
0:40
if you don't want to use breakfast
0:42
sausage you can use bacon just want to
0:44
have it fried up and nice and crisp for
0:47
this recipe or you can even dice up some
0:50
ham you can make it a supreme and add
0:52
all three if you want i've got some
0:54
cheese kind of like a cheddar cheese or
0:57
mozzarella cheese whatever you want to
0:58
put into your breakfast casserole now
1:01
the first thing I'm going to do is get
1:03
my meat cooked up i'm going to add the
1:06
bell pepper and the onion to the sausage
1:09
so it's all comes together at the same
1:11
time and all you're going to need is
1:13
just a mediumsized
1:15
skillet all right we're going to put
1:17
this on a medium mediumigh
1:21
heat and we're going to add in our
1:23
breakfast
1:30
sausage there we
1:32
go we're going to break this up start
1:35
browning it up so this is one
1:38
pound of the sausage all
1:41
right we'll let that do its thing and
1:44
then we'll come over here i'm going to
1:46
grab my onion and bell pepper and we'll
1:48
get those going okay this is the
1:50
cookbook that my recipe is in it's the
1:54
second cookbook Catherine's Plates
1:56
Making Home Cooking Easy it's in the
1:58
breakfast section and it's called the
2:00
hash brown casserole right here now
2:03
these recipes can also be found on my
2:05
recipe blog catherine'splates.com
2:09
all right let me go wash my bell pepper
2:11
make sure it's nice and clean i'm going
2:13
to take off all four
2:15
sides and we're going to dice it up now
2:18
we are going to cook this casserole in a
2:20
9
2:21
by13 and once we get the meat done with
2:24
the bell peppers and onions everything
2:26
else will come together pretty quickly
2:28
so we're just going to cut strips we're
2:31
going to finish dicing these up then
2:33
we'll add it to the sausage since the
2:35
peppers take the longest to cook
2:44
get that going with the
2:46
sausage all right let's grab our onion
2:49
this is kind of a small to mediumsiz
2:51
onion it's a yellow one and I'm just
2:54
going to take off the ends it'll add
2:57
nice flavor to the breakfast casserole
3:00
okay I'm just taking off that outer
3:02
layer
3:05
just cutting that in half now I'm just
3:08
following the lines of the onion and
3:10
then we'll just run our knife through
3:12
the slices to get our
3:14
dices they're going to soften down i'm
3:17
kind of at an awkward angle for you guys
3:19
aren't I all right let's add that to the
3:22
peppers and the sausage woo all
3:26
right things happen let's try that again
3:30
there we go
3:33
all right while this is finished
3:35
cooking let's crack some eggs into a
3:38
large
3:40
bowl and while we're doing that we're
3:42
going to keep an eye on our
3:47
sausage
3:49
one two three why you're stuck three
3:55
four five i got a problem with number
3:59
six there huh
4:01
oh I'm not going to try to do that let
4:03
me go get an extra one out of the
4:05
refrigerator there we go and
4:13
six all right come back over here to my
4:15
sausage peppers and onions get them
4:18
moving once a week I try to do a recipe
4:22
back here on the back burners some
4:24
people like that and then other times I
4:27
will be on the island there facing you
4:29
guys
4:31
all right i'm going to measure out 12 oz
4:33
of evaporated
4:38
milk there we go and we'll add that to
4:41
the
4:44
eggs so once my sausage is kind of
4:46
broken up and browned up I'm going to
4:48
start moving around just make sure that
4:49
there's no pink looks good doesn't it
4:51
we're going to turn off the burner and
4:54
finish our egg mixture now through the
4:56
years my recipes evolve and especially
4:58
with the seasonings when I first created
5:00
this recipe I was using salt and pepper
5:03
now I add garlic powder onion powder and
5:07
paprika so you're just going to take
5:09
your seasonings i just go across the top
5:11
or you can put a quarter of a teaspoon
5:13
in that's
5:15
salt black
5:17
pepper garlic
5:19
powder onion powder going in that'll
5:22
help enhance those onions that we put
5:24
in and of course paprika this is a
5:28
smoked paprika adds a nice flavor go
5:32
right across the top with
5:34
that i'm going to get a whisk and blend
5:36
this all
5:42
together make it nice and
5:44
frothy get in there beat it
5:49
up that way it incorporates very well
5:52
once we put everything else in
5:56
all right let me get that
5:58
out all right I'm using these Simply
6:01
Potatoes shredded hash browns you want
6:03
30 oz for this recipe this is a 20 oz
6:07
bag so I have another bag right here and
6:10
we'll do one and a half bags these are
6:13
already thought out because these are
6:19
refrigerated all right
6:23
right there going to add in two cups of
6:27
shredded
6:28
cheese whatever cheese you want to use
6:32
one and two start combining this
6:38
together all right i'm going to add my
6:40
sausage peppers and
6:45
onions and get that in there nice and
6:48
mixed i think I needed a bigger bowl
6:50
we'll get it though let's just carefully
6:53
stir that
6:55
together yeah I'm not worried about
6:57
leftovers on this um the Joseph's coming
7:00
over to pick up the meatballs that I had
7:02
left over from yesterday if you haven't
7:04
seen that video my IKEA style meatballs
7:08
oh my
7:10
gosh yeah I couldn't make that and not
7:13
have any for Joseph all right we got a
7:16
good mix on that let me go get my
7:17
casserole dish
7:25
now we're going to smooth that
7:27
out you know Mother's Day is right
7:30
around the corner this would be a good
7:31
one for Mother's Day
7:33
too all right nice and even press down
7:40
make sure you give yourself some time
7:41
with this one here because we're going
7:43
to place it in our preheated oven at
7:48
350° for 1
7:50
hour it's uncovered all right I've
7:53
pulled it out of the oven now you can
7:55
take just a butter knife and go into the
7:57
center of it and you want to make sure
7:58
that everything is set in there yes it
8:02
goes all the way down and comes out nice
8:03
and clean it's what you want we're going
8:06
to cool it down just a little bit i'm
8:08
going to put a pop of color across the
8:09
top with some dried
8:14
parsley oh look at
8:17
that should have set that up a little
8:19
bit all right look at that see how
8:22
that's set
8:23
up there's a close shot right there look
8:26
at that
8:36
there's so much flavor in there all
8:39
right you guys let me know what you
8:42
think give me a thumbs up you guys i'll
8:45
see y'all on the next episode bye
