Equipment

  • large deep skillet
  • medium sauce pan or large pot for potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and chopped into bite size pieces
  • 2 TBS cooking oil (I use avocado oil)
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 TBS ketchup
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 TBS A-1 Steak Sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 TBS corn starch
  • salt & pepper to taste

Gravy

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 TBS ketchup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 TBS A-1 steak sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 3 TBS corn starch

Instructions

  • In a medium or large pot, place chopped potatoes and cover with water to 1 inch over the potatoes, season with salt. (2 tsp). Bring to a boil and simmer for 5-7 minutes until par-cooked (which is half way cooked). Turn off burner and drain potatoes and set aside.
  • In a large bowl mix together ground beef, 1 TBS A-1 steak sauce, 1 tsp garlic powder, 4 TBS ketchup, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper.
  • Form into 8 small patties or 4 large patties equally. In a large deep skillet heat cooking oil and butter over medium high heat. Place patties into hot skillet and brown 4-5 minutes, then flip over and brown an additional 4-5 minutes. Remove browned patties from skillet.
  • Add chopped onions to skillet. (Do not remove any liquid from skillet.) Cook onions until lightly browned and softened. Season with salt & pepper. After onions are browned and softened add in 2 cups of beef broth. Bring to a boil.
  • Add in par-cooked potatoes, simmer for 5 minutes until tender.
  • In a small bowl make the gravy by whisking together the gravy ingredients listed above. Pour into skillet that has the potatoes and onions, stir and allow gravy to thicken.
  • Place salisbury steaks back into skillet, spoon gravy over the steaks, place lid on pot, lower heat to a low setting and cook until steaks are cooked through and tender about 5 minutes. Enjoy.
