1970s Old School Spaghetti

Taking an old favorite of mine from a box and bulking it up for a family friendly meal.

Equipment

  • large pot
  • strainer
  • large skillet
  • spatula
  • cutting board
  • sharp knife
  • measuring cup

Ingredients

  • 1 box Kraft classic spaghetti dinner
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large pot of boiling water cook spaghetti (that comes in the box) per directions on back of kraft spaghetti dinner box. Drain and set aside.
  • Meanwhile brown up ground beef until no longer pink. Stir in peppers and onions and cook until softened. Drain excess grease from pan.
  • Stir in tomato sauce and water. Mix in seasoning sauce mix packet from box. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes to thicken.
  • Stir in cooked, drained spaghetti until well combined. Top with the parmesan cheese packet from box and sprinkle with parsley for garnish.

NOTE: this is my version that I remember eating as a child and talking with my mom about her exact recipe. You can change the veggies and protein if you like. Check out the box for other versions of sauce.
