Gooey Chocolate Butter Cake Bars
Made easy with box cake mix and 6 additional ingredients.
Equipment
- 9 x 13 baking dish
- non-stick cooking spray with flour
- 2 large mixing bowls
- electric hand mixer with beaters
- spatula
- measuring cups & spoons
Ingredients
- 1 (15.25 oz) box dark chocolate cake mix (or other type chocolate cake mix)
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 4 large eggs (DIVIDED)
- 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 TBS cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl using an electric hand mixer beat cake & softened butter together to form a crumb mixture.
- Beat in 2 eggs until a thick batter has formed. Place batter into prepared baking dish and smooth out evenly.
- In a separate large mixing bowl beat cream cheese until fluffy using electric hand mixer. Beat in remaining 2 eggs, cocoa powder and vanilla extract until well mixed.
- Beat in 4 cups of powdered sugar 1 cup at a time until a smooth mixture forms.
- Pour mixture over the batter in the baking dish and spread evenly. (DO NOT COMBINE BOTH LAYERS.)
- Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Cool before cutting into bar shapes and serving.
